Dr Bec Edwards is our team's speciality palliative care doctor and also works at MMUH for the stroke team. Today she was highly commended in the resident doctors award at SWB.

Her exceptional communication skills, strong leadership, compassionate approach to patient care and ability to negotiate complexity were highlighted in the nomination. We are proud to have her on our team!

Our Palliative Care Training Sessions were advertised yesterday at Midland Metropolitan Hospital by our team members Katie and Lauren. This was a brilliant opportunity to liaise with all staff to provide necessary information regarding the training days and Palliative Care. As this was a success we will be hosting more events in the future!

Yesterday, we said goodbye to one of our valued Specialist Palliative Care nurses, Fran.

Fran has made a truly positive impact on our team—not only through her clinical compassion and unwavering dedication, but also through her sense of humour that brought light to even the most challenging days.

Throughout her time with us, she has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to ensuring the people of SWB experience dignity and comfort at the end of life. Her priorities have always been clear: putting patients and their families first.

It’s safe to say she will be greatly missed. However, as she moves on to make a difference in Birmingham, we take comfort in knowing that our partnership and collaboration across the region will be even stronger with Fran as part of their team.

It's goodbye for now, Fran—and we wish you all the very best for the future.

In culture of Dying Matters Week, we have put together a timetable of events and activities that are happening within the Sandwell Borough. There is a mix of online and face to face events. These are aimed at encouraging open discussion about death and dying.
