Small, sustainable changes can make a big difference when it comes to maintaining a healthy weight 💙

Here are a few habits that can help you feel your best 👇

🍽️ Cut back on ultra processed foods when you can, they are often high in calories and low in nutrients. Cooking at home can help you make simple, balanced swaps.

🥚 Include good sources of protein, like eggs, lean meat, oats and sweet potatoes, to keep you fuller for longer.

🏋️ Add resistance exercises to build muscle and boost the calories you burn, even at rest.

😴 Prioritise a good night’s sleep to help manage cravings and support healthy routines.

🧘 Learn to manage stress so you feel more like staying active, eating well and avoiding habits linked to weight gain, such as drinking alcohol.

Healthy weight maintenance is not about perfection, it is about small, consistent changes that work for you 💫

It's natural that we'd reach more for the hot drinks in the cold months rather than that refreshing glass of ice cold water we crave in the summer ❄️☕. But, have you ever thought about if one is better for your hydration than the other? Do hot drinks like tea and coffee even count towards your daily water intake? 💧

Let us explain... most adults need about 2 to 2.5 litres of fluid a day, which is around 8 glasses 🥤. In short, any non-alcoholic drink can be part of the two litres that you’re aiming to drink every day. So good news, those hot drinks do count ☕👍.

However, both have caffeine in them, which is a mild diuretic ⚠️. That means they might make you p*e more. But if you stick to the recommended limits for caffeine each day, it shouldn’t affect how hydrated you are. Also, watch out for how sweet you like your hot drinks, as it can easily drive up your daily sugar intake 🍬.

Just finished your workout? 💪

Registered Associate Nutritionist Rebecca Shellabear is back, sharing her top tips on how to refuel: If you can’t eat straight away, grab a high-protein snack like Greek yoghurt with berries, a protein shake, or hummus with breadsticks.

But, always aim for a balanced meal within a couple of hours, don't forget:
🥗 ½ veggies
🍗 ¼ lean protein
🍞 ¼ carbs

Don't worry if if you can't have that protein rich meal, it won't directly affect your recovery, but try to reach your daily protein goals. And don't forget to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Bonus fact: did you know that resistance training does not usually deplete glycogen reserves to an extent that requires immediate carbohydrate replacement?

Registered Associate Nutritionist Rebecca Shellabear shares her top tips on what to eat before you exercise.

✅ Fast-release carbs are your best friend pre-workout because they’re your body’s go-to fuel source, quick to break down, and converted into glucose to power your exercise.
