Above is a lovely natural smile enhancement by Dr Zahra for a patient of ours who had historic damage to her teeth caused by frequent consumption of fizzy drinks in her youth.

As you can see the effects of sugary and acidic drinks, can significantly damage teeth over time, leading to a huge loss of confidence in her appearance 😔

Fizzy Drinks can damage teeth is many ways :

🥤 Enamel Erosion
• Acidic Nature: Most fizzy drinks have a low pH due to carbonic acid, phosphoric acid, or citric acid. This acidity can wear away the enamel, the outer protective layer of teeth.
• Irreversible Damage: Once enamel is eroded, it does not regenerate, leaving teeth more vulnerable to decay and sensitivity.

🍷 Increased Risk of Cavities
• Sugar Content: Many fizzy drinks are loaded with sugar, which feeds bacteria in the mouth. These bacteria produce acids as a byproduct, further contributing to enamel erosion and cavity formation.
• Plaque Formation: Sugary drinks promote plaque buildup, increasing the risk of tooth decay.

🍸 Discoloration
• Dark-colored fizzy drinks, like colas, can stain teeth due to their chromogens (pigment-producing substances) and acidity, which makes the enamel more porous and susceptible to staining.

How to Minimize Damage:
1. Limit Consumption: Reduce the frequency and quantity of fizzy drink intake.
2. Use a Straw: Drinking through a straw minimizes contact between the drink and your teeth.
3. Rinse with Water: Rinse your mouth with plain water after consuming fizzy drinks to wash away acid and sugar.
4. Avoid Brushing Immediately: Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth to allow enamel to re-harden after acid exposure.
5. Opt for Sugar-Free Options: While still acidic, sugar-free fizzy drinks reduce the risk of cavities compared to sugary ones.

Fizzy drinks, when consumed frequently and without proper dental care, can lead to long-term damage. Moderation and good oral hygiene are key to protecting your teeth. 🥤

🌞🌞🌞Summer is finally here🌞🌞🌞

Here at SDAA, we notice an increase in dental trauma amongst children and adolescents as the weather improves and with the school holidays approaching.

Dr Zahra is very familiar with these risks thanks to her very energetic three boys🙈

Trampolines and Diving into swimming pools can pose significant risks to the front teeth due to the potential for high-impact collisions and accidents.

Trampolines:
1. Falls and Collisions:
- Impact with the Trampoline Surface: Falling face-first onto the trampoline can cause teeth to chip, crack, or be knocked out.
- Collisions with Other Jumpers: When multiple people use a trampoline simultaneously, they can collide with each other, leading to facial injuries and damage to the teeth.
2. Improper Use:
- Flips and Tricks: Attempting flips, somersaults, or other complex manoeuvres can result in awkward landings, increasing the risk of facial impacts.
- Lack of Safety Nets: Absence of protective nets can lead to falls off the trampoline.

Diving into Swimming Pools:🏊
1. Shallow Water:
- Head and Face Injuries: Diving into shallow water can cause the diver to hit their head or face on the pool bottom, leading to broken or knocked-out teeth.
- Unseen Hazards: Objects in the water or the pool floor itself can pose risks if the diver is unaware of their presence.

2. Misjudging Depth:
- Incorrect Entry Angle: Entering the water at an incorrect angle can cause the face to hit the water surface hard, causing dental injuries.
- Slippery Pool Edges: Slipping while diving from the pool edge can lead to falls that result in facial impacts.

General Preventive Measures:
1.Supervision: Ensure that activities are supervised, especially for children, to enforce safety rules and prevent risky behaviors.
2.Educate users on the correct techniques for jumping and diving to minimize the risk of accidents.
3.Safety Equipment: Install safety nets around trampolines and ensure pool areas are free from hazards that could cause slips or misjudgments of depth.

Do You Suffer From Excessive Sweating?😥

🌞As we head into the summer months, excessive sweating can be a huge problem causing embarrassment for many people🌞

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a widely used treatment for Hyperhydrosis, which is a condition characterized by excessive sweating.

How Botox Works for Hyperhydrosis?

Botox treats Hyperhydrosis by temporarily blocking the chemical signals from the nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. When these signals are interrupted, the sweat glands do not produce sweat, reducing excessive sweating in the treated area.

Commonly Treated Areas

• Underarms (axillary Hyperhydrosis)
• Palms of the hands (palmar Hyperhydrosis)
• Soles of the feet (plantar hyperhidrosis)

Procedure Details

1. Consultation: Dr Zahra will evaluate your condition, discuss your medical history, and determine if Botox is suitable for you.
2. Preparation: The treatment area is cleaned thoroughly. A topical anesthetic is applied to numb the area and reduce discomfort.
3. Injection: Small amounts of Botox are injected into the skin using a fine needle. Multiple injections are usually required to cover the entire area where excessive sweating occurs.
4. Duration: The procedure typically takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.
5. Aftercare: Most people can resume normal activities immediately. However, it is generally advised to avoid strenuous activities and hot environments for the first 24 hours.

Effectiveness and Results

• Onset: Results usually start to appear within a few days, with the maximum effect often noticed in about two weeks.
• Duration: The reduction in sweating typically lasts 6 to 12 months. Regular follow-up treatments are needed to maintain results.

It is truly a Life-Changing treatment! Swipe ⬅️ to read a very grateful client’s review 💕

Nasolabial folds, often referred to as smile lines, can be filled using dermal fillers such as hyaluronic acid-based injections. These fillers can help plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of the folds, giving a smoother and more youthful appearance to the face.

Often a combination approach is used to treat this area, with multiple areas being treated, such as the cheeks. It’s important to book a consultation prior to embarking on such procedures as very often ‘one size does not fit all’ and each treatment plan is bespoke to every patient.
