When The Rochester Bridge Trust needed a discreet accessibility solution for their historic Bridge Chapel and Chamber, we stepped in with a custom design.

Karol and Andy from our team had just completed an R&D lift design that fit the project perfectly. Working closely with the client, we adapted it to blend seamlessly into the stone step, no visible machinery, just smooth, subtle access.

Site testing, bespoke design, and 16 weeks of precise manufacturing led to installation in early 2022.

The London Access Lift is a set of vertically retracting stairs with a stair profile to the side which rises with the lift.

This lift was installed into the Rochester Bridge Trust. This was because Rochester’s medieval Bridge Chapel and Victorian Bridge Chamber are striking heritage buildings, but were not built with accessibility in mind. As part of the 2020 refurbishment, the forecourt was subtly raised to remove the step at the Chapel door, allowing easy access to the entrance hall of the adjoining Victorian building. However, the four steps in the split-level hall, a key historic feature, had to remain, so another solution was needed - a Sesame Lift!

We recently spent an incredible day at the first Brooklands Innovation Academy STEM event! ✈️

Hosted by Sesame Access, Atkins Réalis, and Brooklands Museum, we welcomed 60 SEND students from six Surrey schools for a day of engineering, creativity, and hands-on fun.

Activities included:

🛩 Building gliders and learning about aviation
🛠 Constructing easels from scratch
🎨 Spray-painting with hydraulics and 3D-printed manifolds

At Sesame Access, we believe failure is part of the process, and this event helped demonstrate this.

Massive thanks to all our partners, teachers, and especially the students for showing us what the next generation of engineers looks like: curious, collaborative, and full of ideas 😊

The Marylebone Access Lift is one of our newest products. It uses the bottom step as an independent wheelstop that is not part of the lift table.

We’ve worked closely with many architects, and the Marylebone Lift has proven to be a great solution for listed buildings that require discreet, reliable access for both manual and electric wheelchairs.

• Minimum horizontal pit length: 1752 mm
• Minimum platform size: 1400 mm x 932 mm
• Maximum rise: 999 mm
• Minimum pit depth below the lower landing: 485 mm + cladding & bedding
