Imagine a listed Georgian townhouse that’s been converted into professional offices requiring disabled access. The front entrance features a short flight of two or three steps (around a 400mm rise), but listed building regulations mean that a ramp or bulky lift simply isn’t an option.

This is exactly where our Wellington Lift is ideal. It blends seamlessly with the existing steps, with the bottom step forming part of the lift platform.

“Why not just install a ramp?”

We often hear this question when we talk about our retractable lift systems. Aside from listed building regulations, ramps are not always the best or even the most practical solution for wheelchair access.

Here’s why:

- To meet Equality Act standards, ramps must have a gentle gradient, often needing several metres of space that many sites simply don’t have.
- Steep ramps can be dangerous or exhausting for wheelchair users. Lifts provide safe and dignifying access.
- In historic or listed buildings, permanent ramps can significantly alter the façade. Retractable lifts preserve the original look while offering full accessibility.
- Lifts can be customised to fit unique footprints and retract when not in use, keeping public areas clear.

Sesame lifts are often built directly into staircases. When not in use, the lift reverts to a fully functioning staircase, fitting seamlessly into the surrounding environment.

We’re thrilled to welcome Krystian Kowalczuk to our Level 6 Degree Apprentice Programme (2025 intake) 🤩

Krystian already holds an Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Level 3) BTEC Distinction, equivalent to three A-level As, and will now be studying for his BEng (Hons) Degree in Electromechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham over the next five years, while gaining invaluable hands-on experience with our team.
