Why can tongue-tie happen??

During early pregnancy, the tongue forms and lifts away from the floor of the mouth, leaving behind the frenulum underneath. Normally, this tissue remodels and thins as development continues.

When that process doesn’t complete, the frenulum can stay too tight or thick, restricting tongue movement and affecting feeding, speech, or oral function later on.

Genetic factors and developmental variations may both play a role. Understanding this helps guide more informed treatment, especially when considering release and therapy.
