What's affecting you at the moment?
I've been working on the IEMT Patterns of Chronicity (PoCs) to explain them more in layman's terms - jargon-free in terms of therapy - for the parents of the children I help because knowing about these PoCs and understanding them can often be the solvent that can get them out of a stuck state. They are one of the fundamentals of IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Technique)
Some inconvenient things that happen can have a major negative effect on us on some days but not on others.
You know - like going to the car in the morning and finding the car battery or car tyre flat. If we're in a rush to get somewhere it might affect us differently than if we were just going out for a drive around the countryside. It might affect us differently if we subscribe to some form of roadside assistance that also offers help on your drive, than if we had to sort it out ourselves. It might also depend on the mood we happen to be in at the time.
As a therapist and coach, I help people change their perspective on things that happen in their life, to be in a better mood more often, and help them realise they can be more in charge of their life than they think or feel they can.
Generally, people find more clarity when they're not stuck in unhelpful thoughts and emotions and can sort out their own problems, sometimes without therapy. In effect, they coach themselves.
If you're an IEMT Practitioner you may have had experiences of how you changed things for yourself or your clients, by referring them to PoC #5? This is an important one for all therapists and coaches because, probably, the majority of people who come to see you are at the effect of something.
I am sometimes affected by 'things' too, sometimes because of the occasional unhelpful or pointed comment from someone, which I can mostly do something about, however, if I can't, I can change my often initial unhelpful perspective on it, using the ideas from IEMT. It's not always easy to do, but I feel much better when I do.
Clarity works wonders!
This is my description of PoC #5.
5. Being “At Effect” rather than “Being at Cause”
When you feel like life happens to you, like you have no control, and, therefore, you can’t make any changes in your life you are being “at effect”- always affected and influenced by other people, your own persistent negative voice in your head, or by things in the environment.
When this happens, people of any age may have experienced an unhelpful emotion happening to them. They may not be aware that in most cases they can change an emotional response and learn to be in charge of emotional responses at least most of the time, by changing their perspective. And one of the ways that you and they can do this is by learning how to skillfully use eye-movement techniques.
When we experience unhelpful emotions of any specific event, many times it's not the event itself that causes it, but a build-up of similar incidents from the past that have been coded as related memories in their brain. These coded memories give us unhelpful thoughts and unhelpful emotions.
When you take charge of your thoughts and rationalise them (more about rationalising thoughst in my next post) and reduce or eliminate the unhelpful emotions surrounding your memories, - especially the memories triggered by the words or actions of others, it can transform your life and influence you to be who you want to be and do what you want to do.
Have a great day!
