💚🌍 World Mental Health Day 2025

Here are a few ways we can all support children’s wellbeing at school and at home:

💚Listen without judgment. Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is simply listen and let them feel heard.
💚Normalise conversations about emotions. When we talk openly about feelings, we teach children that it’s okay to express and manage them.
💚Build connection. Strong, caring relationships with adults help children feel safe, valued, and understood.
💚Celebrate effort, not just achievement. Confidence grows when children know they are valued for who they are, not only what they do.
💚Model self-care. When adults look after their own wellbeing, children learn that mental health is a lifelong priority.

Who Am I? The Face Behind the Page

Hi, I’m Jemma, a counsellor, a late-diagnosed autistic woman, a mum to amazing neurodivergent kids, an animal lover- particularly giraffes and someone who feels most at peace near water.

My journey into counselling wasn’t just a career choice- it was personal. I know what it’s like to navigate a world that doesn’t always make space for difference. Discovering my autism later in life helped me make sense of so much and it’s deepened my passion for creating a safe, understanding space for others, especially those who have felt misunderstood or unseen.

I work with a strong belief that being human is messy, and healing doesn't look the same for everyone. Whether you're neurodivergent, struggling with identity, overwhelmed by life, or just tired of masking who you really are. I see you.

💛 A few things that bring me joy:
• Being near water — rivers, lakes, the sea… it’s where I breathe easiest.
• Wandering through nature with my cocker spaniel Lexie.
• Giraffes. They are graceful, gentle, and just a little quirky, like many of us.

This page is a space for support, self-reflection, and celebrating difference. Whether you’re here out of curiosity, seeking support, or just looking for a space that gets it; I’m glad you’re here.
You are not too much. You are not broken. You’re already enough.
Let’s walk this path together 🐾🌈💛

🌈 Why Counselling Matters for Neurodivergent Children 🌈

Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and understood- especially those who experience the world through a neurodivergent lens.

Counselling offers a safe space for neurodivergent children (including those with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and more) to explore their thoughts, regulate emotions, and build confidence without the pressure to "fit in."

🧡 It’s not about changing who they are.
🩵 It’s about helping them understand who they are.
💛 It’s about celebrating their strengths while supporting their challenges.

When we support neurodivergent children with compassion and tailored therapeutic care, we empower them to thrive on their terms. Contact me for more information and to book sessions at

📚 Back-to-School Anxiety: It's Real for Kids and Parents

As summer winds down, many families are feeling more than just the rush to buy supplies and prep lunchboxes. Back-to-school anxiety can bring real emotional stress for children facing new classrooms, routines, or friendships, and for parents juggling worries, logistics, and the emotional load.

😟 Children may experience:

Trouble sleeping

Tearfulness or clinginess

Stomach aches or headaches

Fear of separation or performance pressure

😰 Parents may feel:

Guilt or uncertainty

Fear of how their child will cope

Stress around transitions and expectations

💛 Counselling Can Help 💛
By providing a warm, non-judgmental space, person-centred counselling supports both children and parents to explore their feelings, build self-confidence, and find their own solutions without pressure or labels.

If back-to-school season is overwhelming for your family, you don’t have to face it alone. Sessions available at Chapter House Counselling & Psychology from Mid September.

In the counselling room, play is powerful- especially for children, young people, and anyone who finds it difficult to express themselves with words.

🎨 Whether it's drawing, storytelling, role-play, or using sensory tools, therapeutic play creates a safe space to explore feelings, build trust, and process experiences without the pressure of "talking it out."

💬 For children and young people, play is their language, and through it, therapists can help them:

+Make sense of difficult emotions
+Express trauma and confusion
+Build emotional resilience
+Develop healthy coping strategies

It's not "just playing" it’s a crucial part of healing. 🌱

✨ What is it like working with me as a Counsellor? ✨
I work from a humanistic approach which basically means I believe YOU are the expert of your own life. So what is MY role? To walk alongside you with warmth, curiosity and without judgement.

Being in the counselling room with me will give you a space to breathe, speak freely and be YOU! I am not there to give you advice or fix you but to offer you a space to feel truly heard so that you can process and reflect on your own journey.

If this sounds like something you need I have availability at Chapter House Counselling & Psychology in West Malling on Thursday evenings.
