Carers Rights Day is nearly here!

This year’s theme is “Know your rights, use your rights” so if you’re an unpaid carer in Dorset, there’s more support available than you might realise.

Bridgit is a free, 24/7 online self-help platform designed just for carers. It’s packed with personalised advice, guidance, and local resources to help you manage your caring role and look after your own wellbeing too.

You can even start your carer’s assessment online, in your own time, and get connected to services that can support you.

Why not join more than 23,000 unpaid carers who have already registered to access support.

With Carers Rights Day coming up on Thursday now is the perfect time to explore what’s available.

We are happy to share West Moors Dementia Action Group's request to encourage our followers to become a dementia friend and support your community. 🩵

When you become a Dementia Friend, you learn the five things we want everyone to know about dementia.

The first thing we want everyone to know is ‘dementia is not a natural part of ageing.’

So, not everyone who grows old will develop dementia, and not everyone who develops dementia is old. Around one in 20 people with dementia are younger than 65.

Learn more about this by becoming a Dementia Friend at dementiafriends.org.uk

We appreciate that this change may affect some patients. If you need support with your diet or managing coeliac disease, please contact us for guidance.

📢 Changes to gluten-free food on NHS prescriptions
Following national guidance, NHS Dorset has recently requested that our GP practices cease prescribing gluten-free foods. This is because NHS Dorset has one of the highest expenditures on gluten-free products in the country, despite having a relatively small population, and the NHS must ensure that funding is used in ways that benefit as many people as possible.

What does this mean for you?
Gluten-free products are now widely available in supermarkets and online. If you rely on gluten-free foods, you will still be able to purchase them directly, but they will no longer be provided on NHS prescription.

If you need support with managing coeliac disease or your diet, don't hesitate to get in touch with your GP practice.

Thank you for your understanding as we work together to maximise the use of NHS resources for the entire Dorset community. For more information, visit the NHS Dorset website here:

Living Well Taking Control is hosting a free webinar on Cholesterol and Type 2 Diabetes Prevention on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025, from 12:00 to 12:40 pm.

This session is designed for patients who are at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes or have been diagnosed with prediabetes but have not yet accessed the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NDPP). We are particularly keen to engage patients from deprived areas, ethnic minority backgrounds, younger demographics, and those with a history of gestational diabetes, as these groups are at higher risk.

Why is this important?

Early intervention can significantly reduce the likelihood of Type 2 diabetes and its complications, improve long-term health outcomes and reduce strain on healthcare services. Through this webinar, attendees will:

✔ Learn more about how managing cholesterol can help reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

✔ Discover the long-term benefits of addressing prediabetes early to prevent progression to type 2 diabetes and other associated health concerns.

✔ More practical tips on lifestyle changes including healthy eating, managing stress, improving sleep and enhancing your environment.

✔ Discover free NHS resources available to support lifestyle changes
