At the end of Baby Loss Awareness week let us take a deep breath and remember our little angels. Remember that wherever they are, they left a little something inside of you that nobody can take away. The pain softens to a gentle ache and I can’t say whether or not it leaves us, because I have not reached that point yet. We will always wander what sort of toddlers or teens they would have been, managers, hairdressers, cricket players or painters. The world that we thought would be their oyster has now become our prison. Even though logic cannot be applied, I have spent years just letting my thoughts stray to the what if’s and what could’ves and how proud I would have been. But I try to bring myself back to reality quickly because I have family who needs the best me I can be. I only hope they will never understand the pangs or the longing. That is one thing I don’t wish on anyone. Death is so final. I understand why humans want so badly to believe in life after death.

A new follower to my page posted an extremely heartwarming video of the Housing Project in Hanover Park, Cape Town. As a Doula who assisted mothers in labour at the Hanover Park MOU, I am humbled by the effort that went into this scheme. Well done to everyone concerned. I am thinking of some the mothers who arrived to receive medical attention at the MOU and who were struggling to make ends meet. It is my sincere hope that some of you benefit from this scheme.

For anyone new to breastfeeding, have a look at this explanation. I think it’s so good to have these little gems of information in your arsenal. If only everything just came natural to all of us 🥲

This can often be sorted by moving them round in the direction of their feet, so in this photo it was downwards for example.

It is a sad time as we say goodbye to a wonderful human. Penny Simkin was an amazing woman. A Doula with a mission. She trained Doulas and led mothers through labour, she wrote books and made a remarkable difference in how we look at childbirth. RIP Penny. Thank you for all you did in your lifetime

I just wanted to share this very interesting bit of information with everyone. It may not be the case with all babies who start their solids, but tests have shown that in many cases breastfed babies become accustomed to their mother’s varied diet and will then be likely to adventure into different tastes with their own food 😉
