Our engineer Dan recently installed a Jeff Gosling Ltd Left Foot Accelerator For Vehicles With A Floor Mounted Electronic Accelerator Pedal in a JAECOO UK at Marshall Omoda & Jaecoo Gatwick/Crawley.

This is a dealer we’ve worked with for a number of years under another brand and it’s been a pleasure to reconnect with the team there who are now selling JAECOO UK AND Omoda.

We would be lying if we said there’s no challenge in installing on newer brands or models, but with some excellent support from a number of our suppliers, we’ve rarely let a customer down. It might take a little longer and it might not always be an instant yes, but we’ll work through to see what can and can’t be done.

Last week we adapted this customer's Motability Scheme car at TrustFord in Epsom, with a range of new adaptations, as a result of a lengthy assessment last year.

We met the customer at their house, in partnership with Elap, to come up with a solution to enable the customer to drive on her own. The customer's previous car had hand controls and a transfer plate, but the transfer plate didn't enable full independence.

As a result, the customer's car has an Elap E Motion X electric swivel and lowering memory seat, along with Cowal Mobility Aids Ltd Push/Pull Brake/Accelerator with Indicator Switch and Hinged Accelerator Pedal (Vehicle specific). The customer also required a Mobility in Motion 80Kg 4 Way Transferable Hoist (Smartlifter LM - Folding) - but with a tweak to maintain use of all seven seats in the Ford UK Grand Tourneo Connect.

In addition to this, when the customer doesn't drive, we installed a Jeff Gosling Ltd Transfer Plate (Manual) to make access easier when carers are on hand to assist.

Today we installed two of our most popular products on a customer’s Renault Austral for a Motability Scheme customer.

Many customers who require hand controls don’t ever consider a second adaptation that could make things easier for them and also for a carer, if appropriate. Last week we assisted a Motability Scheme customer who required a change of adaptation mid-lease. Following an assessment with Motability Foundation, it was suggested that a change of style was required, so we added the Allied Mobility FeatherDrive Electronic Hand Control System (Push/Right-Angle).

These are relatively new hand controls, offered on the scheme at an excellent price (£Nil client contribution).

At the same time, our senior engineer Mark added an additional arm rest to the driver's door, a blind spot mirror and some additional support for the seat.

We recently installed this Mobility in Motion Person Lift Transferable (Smart Transfer) Up To 149Kg into a customer’s Volvo XC60.

This was a private job, although the person hoist is also available via the Motability Scheme as well.

The product is an excellent alternative to a wheelchair accessible vehicle, if the wheelchair user wants to travel in the front seat of the vehicle. It’s also compatible with a wider range of vehicles than a swivel seat, which is another option customers ask about when not wanting to travel in their wheelchair.

Last week we adapted a car for another new to Motability Scheme customer. This Citroën Berlingo from Snows was fitted with multiple adaptations, from a range of suppliers.

This vehicle has our first install of the Lodgesons Eurogrip, which looks a really impressive addition to their range of products. We also installed Autochair 200Kg 4 Way Transferable Boot Hoist (Smartlifter LP), a Person Lift Transferable (Smart Transfer) Up To 149Kg, two Jeff Gosling Ltd Transfer Plates and Des Gosling Mobility Ltd Extended Seat runners.

We’d been in contact with the customer since the spring, going through a number of other adaptation options and also some alternative vehicles. Eventually this spacious vehicle and the range of adaptations mean that the customer can travel as both a driver and a passenger, depending on her condition at that time.

Last week we adapted a vehicle for a lovely customer who was new to us and also joining the Motability Scheme for the first time.

The car was a Volkswagen ID3, supplied by Caffyns Volkswagen Haywards Heath

We fitted two Jeff Gosling Ltd Transfer plates along with Cowal Mobility Aids Ltd push pull hand controls and a hinged accelerator pedal.

During our discussions with the customer, they were amazed by the value of adaptations on the scheme and were especially complimentary about how our team qualified against future challenges.
