Today, on , I'm thinking about the impact of a diagnosis on the patient, but also on those who love and care for them.
It is something that has touched my family personally. On Thursday, my youngest daughter turns 13. 13 years ago, I rang my Mum, exhausted but elated, to tell her she had a new granddaughter. She didn't answer. Later that day, I found out it was because at that exact moment she was receiving a breast cancer diagnosis from her consult.
Thankfully my Mum is now well, but the events of that day still have an impact on all of us.
When unexpected, traumatic events happen to us our brain goes into auto pilot and fires up neural pathways that are designed to keep us safe in these situations. However, when the emotions have subsided and the trauma is no longer a threat, these neural pathways, which influence both our emotions and physical actions can, stay in play, and do not serve us in our new normal.
Our 121 coaching sessions provide a unique opportunity for you to pause and understand how your neural pathways are firing, with the help of our non judgemental and ever loving team of ponies. With my guidance, you can then work out what might need to change and how to do it.
