Resident Doctors Strike: 17–22 December 🚨
The British Medical Association (BMA) has announced strike action by resident (junior) doctors from from 7am on Wednesday 17 December until 7am on Monday 22 December.
Here’s what you need to know:
✅ During these strikes, all other NHS staff (including consultants and other specialist doctors) will still be working, and the focus of the NHS will be on ensuring as many services as possible continue to operate safely.
🏥 Emergency care remains available. If you or someone else is seriously ill or injured, or their life is at risk, please seek help immediately – call 999 or go to A&E.
📅 Appointments: If you haven’t been contacted, attend your appointment as planned. We’ll let you know if it needs to be rescheduled.
⏳ Expect delays: With fewer doctors available, less urgent care may take longer.
Please use services wisely:
• Use 111 online for non-urgent health needs
• Only call 999 in life-threatening emergencies
💊 Pharmacists can offer clinical advice for a range of minor illnesses such as; sinusitis, a sore throat, ear ache, impetigo, shingles or a UTI.
🩺 GP and dental practices remain open – attend as usual unless told otherwise.
🧰 Be prepared:
• Order repeat prescriptions in advance (via the NHS App or your GP)
• Ensure you have a fully stocked first aid kit at home or with you.
• Check in on vulnerable family, friends, and neighbours
