As the light begins to return, Imbolc reminds us that growth starts beneath the surface.

This ancient festival marks the transition from winter to spring—a time of renewal, hope, and potential.

As we notice new growth in the first stirrings of spring - we can let this be a reminder that even the smallest shifts can lead to profound change.

What’s one small step you can take towards your own growth today?

"The mind is everything. What you think, you become." – Buddha

Your thoughts shape your reality. When your inner dialogue is compassionate and forward looking, it lays the foundation for growth, healing, and transformation.

But we’re all human, and our minds sometimes cling to fears or doubts. The good news? You can gently shift your mindset with practice and support.

As a trauma-informed practitioner, I can help you nurture empowering thoughts that will change the way you perceive yourself and the and the world around you.

Our unconscious mind holds unprocessed emotions, experiences, and patterns formed from our earliest days—some rooted in trauma. These patterns often guide our choices, reactions, and relationships without us even realizing it.

Becoming aware of these hidden influences is the first step toward reclaiming your power.

Remember, what feels like "fate" might actually be a pattern waiting to be understood and healed.

Where can you start? Ask yourself: What patterns in my life feel familiar, even when they don’t serve me?

If you want to change the patterns easily,

Hypervigilance is a state of heightened alertness where you're constantly scanning for potential threats, even when there’s no real danger.

It often develops as a response to trauma, where the brain stays in “survival mode,” expecting something bad to happen.

This can look like being easily startled, difficulty relaxing, and feeling on edge in safe environments.

It can also lead to exhaustion and emotional strain.

Understanding that hypervigilance is a trauma response is the first step in addressing it and finding ways to feel safe again.

Grief and loss are common responses to trauma. Acknowledging, feeling and processing these feelings are all part of the journey towards the freedom from the pain.

Grief can arise from many places – changing jobs, the end of a relationship, loss of a pet or loved ones.

How amazing would it be if you could remember your loved one with a smile on your face more often than tears in your eyes.

The Havening Technique is particularly good for processing grief and it is a safe and gentle way to do this.

Flashbacks are intense, involuntary experiences that make you relive past trauma.

A visual flashback involves vividly re-experiencing the traumatic event, almost like watching a scene replay in your mind. An emotional flashback, on the other hand, triggers overwhelming feelings from the past without a clear memory attached, causing fear, panic, or sadness.

They can be triggered by sights, sounds, smells or even certain emotions. Recognizing flashbacks and grounding yourself in the present can help you regain control. Healing is possible with time and support.

When we have a shock and are in a state of heightened emotion, we often make an instant ‘knee jerk’ decision that have no foundation in what we know is our reality and this can become a belief – and often not a particularly helpful one.

For example:
One summer child sees a man attacking another man and, in that moment, sees that the attacker has a hairy forearm. In that moment the child makes the decision that all men with hairy arms are dangerous

Emotional dysregulation is difficulty managing emotions, sometimes leading to intense reactions that feel out of control.

It can result in mood swings, impulsivity, and challenges in relationships.

Small triggers can cause overwhelming emotions, making everyday situations feel unmanageable. earning to self-regulate and clearing the original causes of the triggers are all part of regaining balance.

Depression often feels like being stuck in the past, replaying old wounds and regrets over and over.
It can make you feel disconnected from the present, weighed down by memories of what went wrong.
Living in the past can steal your joy, making it difficult to see hope in the future.

Cognitive distortions from trauma can warp your thinking, making you see the world through a negative lens.

You may expect the worst, blame yourself, or feel unworthy.

These thought patterns are rooted in pain but aren't reality.

Recognizing these distortions a big part of your healing, sometimes that realisation is enough but sometimes people need help to change these and this can open the door to new possibilities.

Breaking the silence about trauma – so often people do not tell anyone. Sharing your story can be the first step on you journey to heal it.

Sometimes that recognition is enough but when it’s not then please reach out for help.

No one can undo the event, and it’s not about forgetting it, or making it ‘right’, but you don’t need to carry the pain around it for ever.

Anxiety is all about fear of the future and it can be attached to specific fears or more generalised.

It can often be called worry and can cause restlessness, and physical symptoms like fatigue and tension.

If it is having an impact on your life and the way you live then it is important to practice self-care, and reach out for support when needed. .

What is religious trauma? There can be many causes and examples include:
1 Any crirical thinking or questioning is forbidden - it is the way it is because God says.... and it is sinful
2 Hell trauma - the threat of hell for all eternity - terrifying especially when drummed into children and this can stay with someone long after they leave (if they do) the religion
3 Appocalypse theology
