Whilst anxiety is a perfectly normal human response to stress, it can become a problem when it happens for no apparent reason, is too frequent or prolonged. Those feelings of unease, fear, dread, and physical symptoms such as racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, sweating, trembling, nausea should be a temporary state whilst our minds and bodies feel 'unsafe'. Once any perceived 'threat' has passed, our nervous system should return us to a calm state of body and mind. However, for some of us, this 'recovery' process isn't so efficient and we never fully relax.
When anxiety becomes a prevalent or even permanent state of being, it can be exhausting, making day to day life difficult to cope with. It can feel like being on 'red alert' all the time - our sub-concious mind constantly scanning for danger for no apparent reason.
