Today is World Donkey Day 🫏

Every year on May 8th, the world pauses to acknowledge an often-overlooked, yet profoundly significant animal: the donkey.
World Donkey Day is a dedicated occasion to celebrate the immense contributions of these hardworking and resilient creatures to societies across the globe. It's a day to highlight their crucial roles in agriculture, transportation, and increasingly, therapy, while simultaneously shining a spotlight on the urgent need for their welfare and protection.

Banks is one of the lucky donkeys wanting for nothing. His therapy visits illustrate his very special qualities.

Yesterday’s trip over to Margate meeting the residents and carers at 39 Beresford Road was made especially memorable as Gemma had bought Banks a mini bottle of Prosecco! 🥂
He downed it with gusto - and then had his usual cup of tea.
The back garden is a lovely sun-trap and we all enjoyed the cuddles and fusses al fresco.

Banks went to beautiful Broadstairs today and met up with the folks at Bradstowe Lodge.
He was truly spoilt with not only having 2 cups of tea but his favourite ginger nut biscuits too!
Hoping someone can share the videos which were taken as he was really slurping it down!

Our first visit to The Willows Care Centre in Margate went down very well.
Banks had loads of cuddles and thoroughly enjoyed himself. Everyone loved his quiet and gentle temperament - And he had his cup of tea before leaving!😉😁☕️🫏

Bank Holiday Monday was sunshine, a trip to Margate and meeting everyone at Sandmere Care Home 🌞
One of the residents was having a 95th birthday gathering with his family in a private room when we arrived but joined us later. 🥳🫏

Our Easter visit to Hamiltons in Upstreet was a delight ~ especially for the 2 little girls who were excited to meet Banks. Her father let them sit on him as a special treat.
Banks met a couple of residents who can no longer get to the lounge and spent some quiet time with them in their rooms before having his cuppa ☕️Happy Easter to you all x

Banks did “his thing” of being the most gentle and calming donkey and proudly led the congregation through the village of Bridge to St Peter’s Church.
This was the 9th year he has joined the celebrations but the first time with the stand in vicar Fr Martin Burrell.
It’s such an honour to partake in this now tradition. 🫏🌴

Banks then made a special visit to my friend’s brother who is staying at Bridge Haven Care Home. Such a good boy, he thoroughly deserved his cup of tea ☕️

Banks is looking forward to leading the Palm Sunday Procession through Bridge this coming Sunday 29th March.
This will be his 9th year walking with the vicar and congregation from the primary school in Conyngham Lane down through the High Street arriving at St Peter’s Church for the service at 10am.

Hope you can join us if you’re around the Canterbury area this weekend x

When Banks was asked to visit a beautiful new care home in Margate he had to say yes! Margate and Donkeys went hand in hand back in the ‘60’s with donkey rides on the beach.
Anyway, Banks was given a wonderful welcome at Sandmere Care Home and everyone had the opportunity to give him cuddles and a little treat. He just stood quietly and nuzzled each hand and gave out his special donkey vibes.
No visit would be complete without him enjoying a cup of tea and he carefully downed a large mug, sucking it up between his lips. Several people took videos as it’s quite a feat and the slurping noises are just adorable.
Thank you Oliviera for arranging the afternoon entertainment.
Hope we get an invite for Easter!

Banks always enjoys his visits to Hamiltons in Upstreet and to celebrate the Scottish poet Robert Burns he wore a tartan sash.

What a super christmassy time at St Peter’s Bekesbourne yesterday!
We followed the stars ⭐️ & entered the church full of beautiful cribs, festive food & mulled wine plus a cup of tea for Banks.
He stood like a pro having photos taken with all the children and adults. Let’s hope it’s an annual celebration 🥳
