This , we recognise why vaccines matter and celebrate how vaccines protect every generation, from our youngest babies to our teens, and our grandparents.

🧡 Why vaccination is important
Vaccines help your immune system recognise and fight infections more effectively. By keeping vaccinations up to date, you’re helping to protect yourself and reduce the spread of disease within the wider community.
As we get older, our immune system becomes less effective at fighting infections. Vaccination helps reduce the risk of serious illness and complications.

💉 Vaccines for older adults
Age 65 +
Shingles vaccine – two doses offered if you turned 65 on or after 1 September 2023. If you turned 65 before 1 September 2023, you'll be eligible for the shingles vaccine when you turn 70. Vaccination helps reduce your chances of getting shingles and reduces the risk of any serious complications if you do get shingles
Pneumococcal vaccine - helps protect against pneumonia, sepsis and meningitis
Annual Flu vaccine - offered every year after turning 65

Age 75 +
COVID‑19 vaccine booster– offered every year in the spring and the winter
RSV vaccine – helps protect against respiratory syncytial virus, which can cause serious chest infections in older adults

🏡 Older adults living in care home are more vulnerable to infections, which can spread quickly in shared settings.
📱 If you’re not sure which vaccines you’ve had or are due, speak to your GP practice or use the NHS App to review your record. NHS vaccines are free and most missed vaccinations can be caught up.
