There has been a lot in the press lately about TPO. For anyone who is interested, Europe has banned TPO in professional products because it is potentially harmful to reproduction under chemicals safety laws – however this is based on a worst case scenario assessment, and the amount of TPO that is used in nail products is extremely low.

It was banned after a 2020 study found that when male rats ingested extremely high doses of TPO (around 600mg per kilogram of body weight every day for 10 days), their reproduction was affected. This does not reflect how TPO is used in gel polish products and, to put it into perspective, a person would need to consume over 2,700 bottles of our gel polish colour every day for 10 days straight to mirror the study conditions.

This ban is expected to come into force in Great Britain in 2027.

Please let us reassure you that our supplier CND is on the case, and has been for a while, working hard to reformulate our gel polish so it doesn’t include this ingredient so we are compliant when the ban happens in the UK.
