Everyone wants peace. Every major religion and spiritual path (including yoga) has this value at its core. Sharing this mantra as a reminder that when everything else is stripped away, there is just a human need to be safe, accepted, connected and loved. Herein lies peace.

You can learn this song by Emily Roblyn, and other powerful, uplifting songs, if you are local enough to Weston to join us on Sunday for Songs for Peace. We’re gathering together to sing peace, hope and change and raising funds for the IRC who are working hard on the ground to help those in need in ❡Z@

Come and sing, stay for a cuppa, some cake and a chat.

What’s the one small thing that can lift you? It might be the smell of coffee in the morning, the warmth of the sun, the sensation of this breath you are taking now

☕️ ☀️

💬 I’d love to know your go to’s for a small thing that can bring you joy every day. Let me know in the comments 🧡

Occasionally, life gives you more that you feel you can bear. On my therapist’s wall it says, “Some days you are the pigeon, some days you are the statue”. This week I was the statue.

30 years of yoga and mindfulness practice, “stitching my parachute” every day haven’t stopped my life from being stressful and haven’t stopped me from feeling heartbreak, despair and malaise. What I do have, is a parachute to soften the landing when I fall, and a toolbox to repair myself when I feel broken.

This week I have had the full array of tools out and, with a little help from my friends, I am back to teaching again today. In case it is helpful for you, here is my emotional first aid kit for when life becomes too much.

In order of importance:

🧡 Breathe - notice this. One. Breath. Then the next one

🧡 Remember that this, too, shall pass

🧡 Notice the pleasant things, no matter how small. (For me - my red geraniums made me happy!)

🧡 Run, walk, do yoga. I’ve been running on the beach every day to get into my body

🧡 Potter. Do little things - tidy this, sort that. Get your house in order and your mind will follow

🧡 Spend time with friends. Ones who hug, preferably

🧡 Treat yourself. Spend time making yourself something nourishing to eat. Wear something you feel good in

Thank you for understanding, those of you whose appointments I cancelled this week, Thank you for listening, those of you who were there for me and, yes, I would love a hug.

Yoga Classes in Weston-super-Mare

I’m a yoga teacher based in Weston-super-Mare, running yoga classes, yoga teacher training, workshops, courses and retreats in all things yoga and mindfulness. As a busy mum and business owner I know what it’s like to have lots of plates to spin and an overburdened schedule - my classes are aimed at people who are looking for all the benefits of yoga. Yes, we do asana (postures) and you will also experience breath work, meditation and of course deep relaxation in my classes. I believe completely in the transformational and healing power of yoga, having been on my own journey through anxiety, depression and, latterly, cancer. You can make your life a more peaceful and happy one simply by taking the time to look after yourself by practising yoga.

Regular beginners courses and workshops take place in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, whether you want to learn the basics of yoga or mindfulness, sort out your back pain or deepen your existing practice there are events coming up around Somerset.
