Our week started with the the blues and yellows as 🇸🇪 Sweden is our Country of the month here at St Georges Nursing Home.

Residents enjoyed a day of crafting Swedish Easter Trees , followed by the new taste that our monthly SnackVerse box brings. Sweden was the Snack Verse country and residents have really embraced and look forward to the new tastes that this brings each month. Our country of the months is always a great conversation starter and gives residents opportunities to share memories . Terry & Christine shared memories of their various exchange students throughout the years & shared a book named “SVENSK RAPSODI “ given to them years ago from a Swedish student. It was a lovely way of reminiscing for both not only Terry & Christine but their daughter also remembering happy times growing up with the exchange students.

It is also Hydration & Nutrition week so our kitchen team will be preparing various snacks & drinks to encourage hydration . Today was a unique & healthy twist on an apple donut with a raspberry & mango gel . Blue berry strawberry gel topped watermelon & pineapple topped slices with a variety of flavoured IDDSI safe gels. The kitchen team ensured snacks for all were offered throughout the home .
IDDSI 4 gels can be used acrooss a variety of dishes to garnish or encourage nutrition & hydration . Our kitchen team shall be demonstrating this throughout the week 🇸🇪🍍🍏🍉

It was a Wednesday filled with a bit of everything here at St Georges Nursing Home .

We started our morning with Marie's Fitness Classes & Boogie Beat Music and Movement Yatton, Weston and Somerset which always sets everyone up for the day .

Our afternoon was a Cooking with Confidence session with Head Chef Richard. The Household Model of care encourages staff & residents who choose to get involved with food preparation & cooking the opportunity’s to do so. On Monday residents got stuck in with shelling the broad beans & peas ready for the kitchen to use in a variety of dishes.

As always it was a full house as Richard demonstrated how to cook some tasty meals meals, packed with goodness using various seasonal vegetables . The session demonstrated that by being organised and creative with meals a no waste philosophy with food can be achieved. A huge range of flavours and tastes from various dishes including wild mushroom & broad bean pesto with a cream cheese topping to a freshly made risotto using a variety of seasonal vegetables was demonstrated .

The wonderful smells of the foods cooking and being prepared gave everyone a appetite. Tasters were taken around for all to try while being washed down with a glass of prosecco 🥂🫛🫘🍆

☀️🪁Project Sunshine 🪁☀️

It was a flying high on happiness project sunshine for resident Johnny here St Georges Nursing Home .

Johnny love kites and has been flying them since being a young child. Now in his 70’s Johnny still has his passion for kite flying and goes out to fly his kites as soon as the weather permits.

Working together with St Georges Church School and Nursery, Weston-super-Mare Johnny visited Y2 Class and spoke to the class about kites and the benefits of the hobby . Johnny spoke about various styles of kites and the names for each kite design . The whole class were mesmerised with the talk and asked Johnny lots of questions before going outside and have the opportunity to fly a kite with Johnny.

What a glorious day of memories created that Johnny shall never forget. We will be visiting then school again throughout the summer months to help make kites with the class.

Johnny also kindly donated a book and a kite to the school while educating the children that no matter what your disability or age you can still live life to the fullest ☀️🪁

Project sunshine spreading joy and happiness to all

It was a day to celebrate the strength and achievements of women throughout the years. Here at St Georges Nursing Home as we embraced the history of Florence Nightingale & how she
founded modern nursing . ‘The Lady with the lamp ‘

We showed thanks to our ladies who volunteer their time and kindness on a regular basis here at St Georges…. our appreciation to all of the ladies on our care team & housekeeping who show compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience to everyone here at St Georges and in their daily life’s.

We embraced friendships & togetherness for all the homes ladies while sharing examples of the strength and determination they have given throughout their years.

Community spirit and kindness has been in full swing here at St Georges Nursing Home. Over a month ago the activities team put out an appeal asking if someone would kindly make a post box topper representing a nursing home.

Post box toppers boost community spirit and after a trip out and residents being fascinated by the toppers we decided to see if we could get one made.

The lovely Tania got in touch and free of charge took on then challenge of knitting a post box topper representing St Georges . Over a month on and a lot of hard work from Tania the hand knitted postbox topper was brought into the home. It was a delight for residents to meet Tania & her friend Jane over coffee and cake and to thank them for such kindness.

Tania shall be visiting again to join in with further knitting projects with residents. If anyone has any wool donations these would be greatly appreciated for upcoming projects with Tania .
Thank You Tania 🧶📮👵👴❤️

About St. Georges Nursing Home

At St Georges Nursing Home we strive to provide the highest level of care in a comfortable and safe environment.

The home is purpose built and was completed in 2012. Accommodation is provided over two floors and is furnished to the highest standard.

Our experienced staff take pride in providing our residents with holistic care, taking into account everyone’s individuality and diversity. The combination of committed staff and our purpose built home-from-home, makes us the ideal choice for those seeking care for themselves or a loved one.

When we say home-from-home, we mean it. Our home is based around four households, each with their own kitchen/dining room. We cook together, eat together and play together, meaning that our residents can be as involved in the daily life of the home for as long as they are willing or able to.
