Guilt free meals are everywhere. And I have a real problem with that concept. It creates a feeling of "I am doing something bad and I am a guilty party" while in reality the guilty party is whoever created this marketing concept.

Feeling guilty about eating something can only lead to disordered eating and unhealthy relationship with food.

Which is much worse than enjoying a proper pizza, burger or cake from time to time.

It's in our nature to want something which is forbidden so as soon as you let yourself have whatever you want, perhaps it won't be as appealing as before?

Next time please join me in eye rolling activity when you see a "guilt-free" meal.

So content and happy… NOOOOT!

Getting ready in the morning to leave for nursery is like a battlefield. Brush your teeth - NO; put your jumper on - NO; get in the car - NO!

One voice in my head “OMG what is this so hard?!”… the other voice in my head “Chill out, what’s the worst thing which is going to happen? You’re going to be late, so what?”. Does it make it easier? Yes and no. Tomorrow will be easier, maybe.

Hang in there mama! 💪👩‍👦

My clients and I often talk about motivation and I wanted to dig deeper into the myths about it. We all have days when we feel more motivated. But did you notice that it never lasts?

Motivation lasts a week or two but to carry on with the action, be it exercise, eating certain things, routines, you need something more solid.

You need consistency, planning and prioritisation.

This goes back to my favourite topic: forming healthy habits.

Want to know more about the magic? Drop me a message.

*Disclosure - there won’t be any magic whatsoever, just very practical actions.

Stress is one of the factors which damages our physical and mental health without us noticing.

Life will always be stressful one way or another but stress becomes a problem when it is chronic. Meaning we don’t deal with the stressors and they keep reoccurring and adding up. A crash is inevitable.

This can results in:
Anxiety
Depression
Digestive issues causing -
IBS
Bloating
Skin issues such as acne
Hormone imbalance
Extra weight/extreme loss of weight
I can go on …

🔑Awareness is key.
No one knows you better than you do.
Start small by noticing how you feel after you do something or speak to someone. Any triggers? What are they? Are the ideas yours or it’s an external pressure? Which part of this can you control and which one you need to let go of? What can help you deal with the trigger or stressor?

Keep practicing awareness and you’ll see a pattern. Once you know the pattern you can start thinking about solutions and design your own stress response.

This might seem too simple but best outcomes lie in simplicity. Try it, let me know what comes up.

Small wins. I’m a big advocate of small and consistent changes. And the purpose of my work is to help mums get healthier and closer to their health goals.

Client:
A mum of two who wanted to lose weight. It’s a big goal and we could have looked at it from different angles - nutrition, movement, sleep and stress management. The client had a less busy week ahead and wanted to make one small change during that week.

The issue we addressed:
Food quality. We’ve determined that the client loved precooked food which she’d usually buy and put in the oven. Indeed these meals taste better because of all the extra added things you’d not usually add at home. The downside - extra calories and artificial ingredients. So we explored what she can improve in a week.

Actions:
We explored the foods she likes. Thought about recipes. The client did food shopping list, bought the ingredients and used the week to cook at home. She discovered that she liked home-cooked meals and they didn’t have to be boring.

Results:
Happy mummy! And closer to her health and weight goal. What can be better?

That time of the year when we all feel like staying in because it’s colder and wetter outside.

Kids give a different perspective when it comes to seasonal changes. They just want to be out whatever the weather. And I’ve been embracing the spirit.

Rain boots, rain coat and umbrella - these are going to be go to tools for successful survival for the next few months!

Being out boosts our mood and we will need it in the colder months to come. So it’s totally worth getting the hair a bit wet.

Bouncing back culture is a modern BS story.

Realistically looking at the situation: you’ve been through pregnancy and childbirth. In some cases through IVF and breastfeeding and difficult delivery with complications. This took time, effort and your body did a lot of work.

Once the baby arrived you’ve lost sleep, time for yourself & time with friends; eating habits got worse, exercise got more rare. BTW this is normal.

Your life changed, your body changed and your health changed.

I can’t possibly spot a “Bounce back” opportunity in this story because it is unrealistic.

After kids your body needs time and a new routine in order to recover and help you discover a new way of being healthy.

You’re back to basics:
😴Learning how to prioritise sleep
🍽Creating healthy eating habits
🧘‍♀️Finding exercise which suits your new body
🧍‍♀️Learning about pelvic floor health and how to improve it
😎Discovering how to cope with stress

Very common amongst mums: the evening is the only time you get for yourself when the kids are finally in bed.

Going early to bed doesn’t seem like an attractive option.

TV, a glass of wine, kitchen cleaning, life planning, Instagram scrolling = late nights. Followed by kids waking up at night and ruining your sleep.

You wake up tired.

Repeat.

Why getting quality zzz will make a huge difference in how you feel?

Because while you sleep:
😴Your body and mind recover. Daytime stress? Your body deals with it while you’re asleep.
🍲Your hunger, satiety and cravings regulate. Bad sleep = overeating.
🧘‍♀️Your body regulates your hormones. And hormones are responsible for your mood, energy and overall wellbeing.
😷Your immunity gets stronger. Yep, you can ditch your fancy supplements now.
🏃‍♀️You burn fat and build muscle. There is a reason why it’s called beauty sleep.

The dangers of walking past a toy store. Tantrums in public and negotiating with a toddler.

This happened the other day. I needed to grab a snack and unfortunately the store had a big display of toys.

After ages of negotiations I ended up buying the most overpriced bear. I suppose my negotiation skills with a toddler really suck.

The purchase of the bear gave Mila 10 minutes of happiness. Worth it? At that particular point - Yes! Long term strategy - definitely won’t work.

How many bears will end up buying while avoiding a tantrum?

Any other parents who can relate? Any tips on how to avoid tantrums and buying overpriced bears?

But…

What works instead is making tiny changes in your habits which add up to massive improvements.

Try it once, then twice, then slowly slowly it will become a habit.

Over the years I heard the same story: after having kids, mums experience constant fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, extra weight won’t shift and everything is overwhelming AF.

This happened to me after I had Mila. The internet is full of advice on how to starve yourself, punish yourself in the gym, deprive yourself of social experiences because you’re on a diet or not drinking or fasting or doing some new trendy not eating *this* or *that*.

The internet is also overwhelming AF.

To help myself and help other women like me get their health and bodies back I decided to dedicate my career to researching and studying the nutrition coaching field. This is how The Margo Method was born.

If you’re a mum and feel you’ve lost touch with yourself and your body, reach out. We can figure out something together.
