For all the new parents out there!

Here's some of my tip tips for supporting your newborn with sleep and wellbeing 🌟

Remember, there are no bad habits here, don't feel the pressure for following a routine and lean on those around you for support πŸ’–

For those short wake windows (60-90 minutes) I recommend contrast products, such as their muslins or flashcards. Great for connection with your baby and developing their vision and focus.

Before we started working together, in this Mums words she said "I don't know what to do". She felt defeated.

Her 12 month old was defiant at bedtime, each night it was a fight, where previously she was going down with ease.

She would wake multiple times overnight, sometimes she was awake for a few hours in the middle of the night.

Now almost 2 weeks into sleep support, she is a different baby. Sleeping through the night to the point that Mum asked should I be waking her up!!

Sleep when it's sweaty is a tough gig for us all, especially if you're a small person napping in the day!

Here's some tips to ensure sleep is comfortable for your little one. β˜€οΈ

Optimise their sleep space - block out the sun during the day if it shines directly into their room. Leave a little gap so air flow is maintained. A hot stuffy room is the worst!
Try to open windows either side of the house to create a draft.

Be flexible in the heat - without the luxury of aircon here in the UK, often its about surviving the hot spell and getting through it! Don't beat yourself up if naps are a bit all over the place. Add in an extra nap if needs be and consider taking naps on the go. An aircon car might be best for both of you!

I always recommend for creating a sleep environment on the go. They are breathable covers for the pram, so rest assured, your little one is safe from the heat. Never use a blanket or muslin to cover the pram. This dangerously increases the temperature within that space, putting baby at risk.

Hello, let me introduce myself! πŸ‘‹

I'm Katie - a Sleep Coach and Paediatric Nurse. My approach to sleep is unique given my 10 year background in nursing. I utilise this knowledge in my sleep plans and techniques with the clients I work with.

I became passionate about sleep when working in intensive care. Here, we care for the sickest children, those undergoing major surgery (mostly cardiac) or recovering from serious illness. Sleep is therefore vital for recovery. It's where our bodies regenerate and build energy for the next 24 hours. I began learning more about the importance of sleep during my time in PICU, and went on to do my Sleep Practitioner Programme.

I set up in 2023 as a Sleep Consultant and have supported clients to achieve their goals ever since. I've worked with parents at rock bottom, completely exhausted and unsure where to turn next. I'm walked the journey with each of them to better sleep for their little one, but equally for them too.

My aim is for parents to thrive. If you're well rested with lower stress levels, your little one will follow suit. I want you to be the best parent you can be. And often that starts with better sleep for all!
