At Weybridge & Walton Physio, we see lots of children, teens (and yes, adults too!) coming in with sports-related injuries around this time of year.

After a long, relaxed summer, it's no surprise. Sudden growth spurts, poor footwear, and jumping straight back into training without prep can all play a part.

Our Team are experts in biomechanics and fully understand the pressures on a growing body. We’re here to help your child stay active and injury-free throughout the season. 💪

Ankle sprains – a common summer injury ☀️

With light evenings, holidays, and more time outdoors, we see more ankle sprains at this time of year, whether it’s from a misstep on a walk, slipping at the poolside, or playing summer sports.

Here’s what to do immediately after an ankle sprain:
❄️ Rest & Ice – Stop the activity, elevate your foot, and apply ice for 15–20 minutes every 2–3 hours.

🪢 Compression – A supportive bandage can help reduce swelling.

⬆ Elevate – Keep your ankle above heart level where possible.

Stay Cool, Stay Active this Summer 💧

💦 Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate – Aim to drink water before, during, and after exercise. Add a pinch of salt or an electrolyte tablet if you’re sweating heavily.

🕒 Time it right – Exercise early morning or later in the evening to avoid the midday sun.

⏸ Listen to your body – Dizziness, headache, or extreme fatigue? Stop and cool down immediately.

🥗 Fuel up – Fresh fruit and veg with high water content (like watermelon or cucumber) help keep you hydrated from the inside too.

You’ll perform better, recover faster, and enjoy your summer training more when you keep cool.

Fitness might be a priority, but so is enjoying every delicious, well-earned moment of rest. 🧘‍♀️🥘🌴

So if you’re heading off this summer, breathe deep, soak it all in, and do what makes you feel good, whether that’s a sunrise swim, a walk on the beach, or absolutely nothing at all. 😎

Our Physio Anneri diagnosed this patient with calcific gluteal tendinopathy, using the new ultrasound service we offer.

Following the scan we were able to swiftly set a treatment plan in motion with one clear goal - to get him running again, pain free!

With 6 months of rehab and physio, we have reached this exciting milestone… our patient is running again 🙌 🏃‍♂️😊
