Story of Modern Sustainability: Jason's old Volvo 850 needed a new seat belt release button to pass its MOT this week. After years of use they develop a hole in the middle and they stop working. The mechanic said, "Get a new buckle and I'll fit it". But new buckles cost ££ and it was just a knackered plastic button stopping it working. An online search found one possible solution...a Saab 9000 button for £12 available by post from a Saab spares dealer (they also fit the 850). Plus there was a guy in Hungary on eBay selling individual 3D printed buttons for Volvos at £20 each. Jason had an idea. He found the button 3D print design online and mentioned it to Kev. Kev downloaded it, for free, and printed a couple off. They cost pence. The plastic is biodegradable. There's nothing in the MOT rules to say they have to be red or the original colour, they just have to work...but we could have printed them with red filament like the guy in Hungary. Some special visitors at our February 10 event.
We welcomed Claire who runs Budmouth School's Employability Diploma for sixth formers. We had been looking for an opportunity to get involved in a project with a local school and this is it! ✔️

Cartherine and Sarah from Bournemouth Repair Cafe were on a fact finding mission. Bournemouth Repair Cafe was the only one that I visited prior to setting up Repair Cafe Weymouth. They have the problem of finding a venue that is accessible to their vast catchment area. The Bournemouth Library is not ideal and they occasionally host events in Poole.

Here in Weymouth, we are lucky to be an ideal size to have just one spacious venue with a large free car park and a good bus service. We always hold our events in the same location to avoid confusion.

Population of Weymouth and Portland 62,000.
Population of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole 400,000.

It was lovely to meet you ladies. Good luck with expanding Bournemouth Repair Cafe.
