Our Story

AW Sports Therapy was established in 2017. Abbie is a graduate sports therapist and member of the society of sports therapist (MSST) based in Weymouth, Dorset. She has gained a wealth of experience in both professional and semi professional sporting environments. In 2016-2017 Abbie completed a season long internship with AFC Bournemouth's medical department working alongside an experienced team of professionals. Here she gained in valuable experience she is able to call upon in her current work. Abbie has also worked with Bristol Rovers FC, Oxford United FC, Weymouth FC and AFC Bishops Cleeve. Alongside her private work she currently assists the GB sailing team at their base on Portland and abroad and works alongside the Dorset FA Girls program as their designated sports therapist.

AW Sports Therapy clinic is based within New Body Gym on the Granby industrial estate. Clients are able to make full use of the gyms top facilities when completing injury rehabilitation with Abbie. AW Sports therapy’s philosophy is to get you back to where you want to be, but stronger than before. Injury and setbacks are the perfect opportunity to come back stronger.

What is Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability. Sports therapy provides a variety of treatment options including: sports massage, kinesiotaping, electrotherapy, ultrasound, manual therapy and acupuncture. A Sports Therapist is a healthcare professional who has the knowledge, skills and ability to: utilise sports and exercise principles to optimise performance, preparation and injury prevention programmes provide the immediate care of injuries and basic life support in a recreational, training & competitive environment assess, treat and, where appropriate, refer on for specialist advice and intervention. provide appropriate sport and remedial massage in a sport & exercise context plan and implement appropriate rehabilitation programmes The spectrum of expertise that a Member of The Society of Sports Therapists must possess is built within five key areas of competency related to injury and illness in the sport and exercise environment. These are: Prevention Recognition & evaluation Management, treatment & referral Rehabilitation Education & professional practice issues
