💚Children’s Grief Awareness Week 17 - 23 November 2025

This year, the Week's theme is Sharing Stories, Strengthening Hope.

We know that many children and young people feel isolated and lonely, particularly during the initial time after a bereavement. We also know that a bereavement does not define who they are, although it can become part of their identity. This year we want to encourage everyone to share a story about a bereavement, because we are all affected by bereavement.

Grief is hard but it can also give a child or young person insights and resilience they can take through their life. That’s why we want these stories to highlight hope too, recognising that despite bereavement there are still opportunities and moments to celebrate.

The website is currently back on line. We apologise again for any inconvenience caused. There may be some intermittent issues over the next few days but if you encounter these please retry.

Many thanks

UPDATE TUESDAY 28 OCTOBER

Unfortunately the website issues are still ongoing. Our website provider is slowly migrating all its clients over to a new firewall but this is taking time. Please bear with us. We realise it is frustrating for everyone but it is out of our control.
Please continue to use the NHS App or the below link if at all possible to request appointments or prescriptions.

To request an appointment go to:
accurx.nhs.uk/patient-initiated/c81080

UPDATE MONDAY 27 OCT

We are still having issues with our website. Our website provider is working to fix this but in the meantime please see the below message for details on how to access the surgery.

Additionally if you don’t already have the NHS App please consider downloading this as it makes it easier to request appointments and prescriptions.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this is causing.

WEBSITE ISSUES

Unfortunately our website is currently down with our website provider reporting an issue with the server causing intermittent disruption, they are working on it to find a solution.

If you require urgent assistance and are unable to access the website, please call the practice (reception can send them a link to the triage form bypassing our website).

Alternatively you can access our appointment request screen directly either through the NHS App or through the below link

WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION

We are noticing a surge in requests for weight-loss medication, following announcements in the media on 23rd June that these medications are now "available on the NHS."

Please can we ask patients NOT to contact your GP to enquire whether you are eligible as these medications will not be available in Derby and Derbyshire until later in the year.

In addition, once the referral pathways in Derbyshire have been opened, there are strict eligibility criteria we must stick to. Eligibility for referral will be opened up in phases over the next 3 years.

In Phase 1 (2025-26), patients must have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or more AND at least four of the following diagnosed health conditions:
✓ type 2 diabetes
✓ high blood pressure
✓ heart disease
✓ obstructive sleep apnoea
✓ abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia)

The number of patients eligible for referral in phase one are expected to be very small.

If you are struggling with your weight and would like support, you can self-refer to Live Life Better Derbyshire who offer a range of weight-loss support services. They will also be able to refer eligible patients for weight loss medications once these become available in Derbyshire. You do not need to contact your GP Practice to access these services.

More information on Derbyshire's plans to roll out weight-loss medications can be found here: https://joinedupcarederbyshire.co.uk/stay-well/tirzepatide/

This information is about how the weight loss drug tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) will be prescribed to patients.

This week is National Patient Participation Week. This is a national event held each June to raise the profile of Patient Participation Groups (PPGs) (volunteers who work with the NHS, especially in GP surgeries).

We are absolutely thrilled that High Peak Comps could lend a hand and provide two iPads to help the Goyt Valley PPG to gain valuable feedback and insight for the practice from its patient population. The iPads will also help to organise and run busy vaccination clinics.

PPG members use their lived experience to influence the way patients are treated by GPs and medical professionals.

At meetings, the group, made up of both patients and staff, discuss patient feedback and share ideas on how services at the practice can be celebrated or improved.

Everyone who is a registered patient at a practice can join their PPG and you can base your level of involvement on the available time you have.

So thank you, thank you, thank you High Peak Comps for once again putting back into your community - best wishes Goyt Valley Patient Participation Group. Ps. Hope you enjoyed your homemade biscuits!
