It might just be me but...
the word gratitude has been used so much it’s starting to lose meaning.
For me it now sounds like a chore or something you’re “supposed” to do rather than something that actually shifts how you feel.
So here’s how I've shifted my view to a more realistic, modern way to approach it:
Think of gratitude as a pattern spotter.
Not a list - not a journal - not a performance.
Just a way of noticing what’s working in your life so you can get more of it.
The brain has a negativity bias. It remembers the annoying moments, the awkward conversations, the things that went wrong. Gratitude isn’t about pretending everything is perfect but it is about giving your brain a chance to notice the tiny things that don’t go wrong.
A few simple, low-effort options:
✨ The 10 second rule
At some point today, pause and notice one thing that made your shoulders drop or made life slightly easier.
✨ The gratitude swap
Share one good thing with a friend or family member. It doesn’t need to be deep -“my coffee was actually hot today” counts.
✨ Screenshot gratitude
Save photos, messages or moments that made you smile into one folder. A modern version of a gratitude journal that you don’t even have to write in.
✨ Evening re-balance
Before bed, name one small thing that was better than yesterday. Not perfect, just better.
This isn’t about forcing positivity. It’s about helping your mind notice what’s steadying you, so you can carry more of that forward.
