Rest improves clarity - Annoying but true.

A lot of people try to fix brain fog with caffeine and determination. The problem is, if you’re genuinely tired, your brain just becomes a slightly faster version of tired.

One of the reasons things like massage, yoga and pilates at Riverside help people think more clearly is because they actually give the nervous system a chance to reset.

“I didn’t realise how noisy my head was until it quietened.” - a client said recently at Riverside.
Most people assume they’re just busy, tired, or bad at switching off. Then something calms the noise down and they realise that for one (or several) reasons, their brain has been running like a washing machine on spin cycle -and a quieter head makes life quite a bit easier.

If you’ve been thinking about trying yoga or Pilates, this is your gentle nudge.

A lot of people assume you need to be flexible, calm, or already good at it.

You don’t.

Most people walk into their first class slightly stiff, slightly sceptical, and wondering if they’re in the right place.

That’s exactly how it’s supposed to start.

Both yoga and Pilates run regularly at Riverside, and they’re a good way to support the theme we’re focusing on this month: Mental Clarity and Energy.

As part of Relationships and Emotional Health Month, this week we’re focusing on guilt and how it shows up when relationships start to shift.

Guilt often appears when you begin doing things differently.

Setting a boundary.
Saying no.
Not over-explaining.
Prioritising your own needs.

That uncomfortable feeling can make you second-guess yourself. It can tempt you to return to old patterns simply because they feel familiar.

But guilt does not automatically mean you are doing something wrong.

Often, it’s a sign that a dynamic is changing. When you step out of a role people are used to, there can be resistance - internally and externally.

Growth in relationships can feel uncomfortable before it feels settled.

This week, instead of asking,
“Why do I feel guilty?”

Try asking,
“What am I doing differently?”

🖌When talking isn’t the only way healing happens...

Not everyone wants to process their feelings out loud.

For some people, especially those who feel socially anxious, disconnected, or drained by constant self-analysis, healing happens differently.

It happens:
• Sitting alongside others
• Doing something with your hands
• Not being expected to share
• Letting your nervous system settle in safe company

Lisa Ashmore is introducing a small, low-pressure creative group at Riverside.

There’s no requirement to talk. No expectation to perform. Just simple shared creative activity and space to be around others without pressure.

This group may suit you if you:
• Feel anxious or awkward in social settings
• Want connection but struggle with conversation
• Feel tired of analysing yourself
• Want a gentle way back into being with others

🗓 Starts: Tuesday 24th February (morning)
💷 £20 per 60-minute session or 5 sessions for £90
