So sad to hear this, such an amazing business has been built up by Claire, it would be such a shame for it to disappear from our high street 💖
This is the hardest post I’ve ever had to write on here. It’s taken a lot of tears and rewriting so I hope I’ve got it right.
I cannot continue running TurtleBee anymore. Physically, the last few months have been really hard. I’ve tried to make light of what’s going on but I’m dealing with a nasty disc issue in my back. Aside from the pain, what upsets me more is that I haven’t been running the business as well as I normally would. Being unable to lift or drive has meant customers have had to wait longer for new/ordered stock than they should have to. I’m forgetting a lot too. Everyone has been patient and understanding but it’s not how I want to run things and I have found it extremely frustrating.
Sadly, it doesn’t seem that it’s an issue that’s improving anytime soon and even if I am back to normal in the next few months, the heavy lifting is going to be off the cards for a very long time and realistically I am facing a long journey of rehabilitation. If the business was taking more money, I would be able to employ full time managers for each of the shops but it’s just not feasible which leads me to this decision.
So what does this mean for TurtleBee? Worst case: all three shops close. Obviously this is not what I want. I started the business because I wanted a refill shop nearby! Best case: the shops continue to run as someone else’s business/s. This could be under someone else’s brand or continue as TurtleBee. Somebody could take on an individual shop however Padiham would need to relocate.
I am open to enquiries, questions and discussions with people who are interested in taking over one or more of the shops. Of course, I would be happy to support anyone to get the business off to a flying start. Another option is that a group of customers may be interested in forming a cooperative or a community interest project which would be staffed by volunteers.
I appreciate that this may seem sudden and will come as a shock to a lot of people. I am really hoping that this doesn’t mean the end of refill shopping in our area. Of course I will keep everyone updated with any news.
Enquiries can come through social media or via email (chplowes@gmail.com.) we can arrange a phone call to discuss further.
I will keep the shops running as best I can in the meantime but will be slightly time limited by when any treatment starts.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Please share far and wide and hopefully we’ll find the right person/ people to continue the TurtleBee journey…
Your love, support and encouragement have meant the world to me over the last 3 years. I’ve made friends, not just customers. Thank you.
Love Claire ###
