When the pattern says “easy”… but the stitches only exist in the AI multiverse.

I’ve had so many students bring me patterns where the photo and the stitches simply don’t match, and it’s not their fault.

Right now, AI‑generated crochet images are everywhere. They look beautiful… but the stitches often don’t exist, the shaping is impossible, and the pattern is either unmakeable or completely unrelated.

So if you’ve ever bought a pattern, tried your best, and thought:

“Why can’t I do this? It says EASY!”

Please know, it's very likely not you.

Sometimes the pattern isn’t easy.
Sometimes the pattern isn’t real.
Sometimes the pattern is written in a way that doesn’t suit your brain.
And sometimes the photo is pure AI fantasy.

If you’re ever unsure, bring it to class, we’ll figure it out together.

You deserve patterns that build confidence, not break it.

The only picture I have taken today of our trip to headquarters.

This month is International awareness month for PKU (phenylketonuria)

Today we spent the day at Firstplay Foods, the headquarters of Promin, a company that produces low protein foods for people living with PKU.

It wasn’t just a lovely day out… it was also a really important reminder of how much thought, care and support goes into helping families like ours 💚

For anyone who isn’t familiar, PKU is a rare inherited condition. It means the body can’t properly break down a protein called phenylalanine, which is found in everyday foods like meat, dairy, eggs, nuts and even regular bread.

Without careful management, this can build up in the body and affect brain development and overall health.

So for Oliver, life looks a little different.

At 14, he’s currently allowed 12 exchanges of natural protein a day, which has to be carefully measured and tracked. Most of his protein actually comes from specially designed supplements, alongside low protein foods like those made by Promin.

Today gave us such a brilliant insight into that world.

We had a full tour of the factory and got to see how these foods are produced and packaged, led by the very knowledgeable Faye. While the adults were learning more, the teens were busy making their own baguette and carrot cake to take home (which went down very well!).

We were also treated to a low protein lunch, Oliver’s highlight was definitely the rice salad, and he had the chance to sample some of the supplements that play such a big part in his diet.

But more than anything, it was just so lovely to be in a space where everything felt… normal.

Being able to chat with other parents and teens who just get it, in an environment that was so inclusive and welcoming, really meant a lot.

A huge thank you to Tom, Katya and Linda from Promin and their fantastic team, and to Lucy and Georgia, the dietitians from Manchester Children’s Hospital, for organising such a thoughtful and supportive day.

It’s experiences like this that make such a difference 💚

I’m sure I’m not the only one that does this?

If you do, do you frog or carry on regardless?

✨ New Educational Tutorial ✨

This week I’m showing you how to wet block a crochet jumper — from the body to the sleeves.

Blocking helps natural fibres relax, open up lace and settle into their final shape. If you’ve ever wondered how to do it properly, this video walks you through everything.

Let me know if you’d like a steam‑blocking video next.

A bright, uplifting tote designed to feel like a little burst of colour every time you pick it up. The Windmill Tote is built from four textured panels, each one worked in a different shade, creating that soft, patchwork‑style layout that feels both modern and nostalgic. Every section has its own stitch story, but the neutral border brings everything together with a clean, calm finish.

The handles are sturdy and comfortable, made to sit neatly on your shoulder without digging in, perfect for market days, yarn runs, or just carrying life around with you. It’s lightweight, roomy, and full of personality, with colours that look beautiful whether you go pastel, bold, or somewhere in between.

It’s the kind of bag that makes you feel put‑together even on the days you’re not trying. Handmade, practical, and quietly joyful.

💗 A Personal Milestone

Today marks 35 years since I became a mum.
We were just about to start fertility treatment when I found out I was pregnant, and although life didn’t unfold quite as planned (seven pregnancies in total), he remains my most cherished make.

It felt right to share that today, creativity and connection run through everything I do, and this community is a big part of that.

Thank you for being here, for supporting my work, and for sharing your own makes with such joy.

Here’s to another month of colour, creativity, and calm stitches.

A soft, joyful shoulder bag with a beautifully bold centrepiece. The circular motif sits like a little burst of sunshine on the front, worked in layered colours that feel playful without ever shouting.
The body of the bag is sturdy yet gentle in the hand, made in smooth cotton that gives it that clean, modern finish you love.

The standout feature is the plaited strap, a chunky, tactile braid created by weaving two handles together.

It gives the bag its personality: cosy, textural, and just a bit different. Whether you make it in soft pastels or bright, confident shades, the plait adds movement and charm.

Perfect for days when you want something light, handmade, and full of character. It’s the kind of bag that makes people smile before they even realise you made it yourself.
