Yoga Nidra 🧘

Yoga Nidra or β€œyogic sleep” is a state of deep relaxation bordering on wakefulness and sleep. It’s usually practiced lying on a mat with the teacher guiding the class, the duration of the session varies from 30 to 60 minutes. The practitioner draws his attention inwards and follows the verbal instructions of the teacher.

In short, we set an intention - sancalpa, scanning the body, visualizing images, observing the breath and body. The practitioner plunges into the stage of falling asleep, but remains conscious, breathing slows down and the body comes into a state of natural balance and harmony - a deep meditative state.

At first glance, it seems that it is very simple, but nevertheless, beginners relax so much that they just fall asleep😴. This is normal and with practice, you will be able to stay conscious.
The good thing is that Yoga Nidra is suitable for everyone and regular practice leads to a reduction in tension and anxiety, headaches, and stress.

I definitely advise everyone to try🧘, given that you can easily practice at home with audio recording, most importantly, not in bed πŸ™ƒ.

Hatha yoga for beginners πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

I suggest starting practicing hatha yoga straight with a sequence known as Sun Salutation or Surya Namaskar (hereinafter referred to as SN) in Sanskrit. You can start your day with several SN circles, choosing a variation that is close to you. Movements should be synchronized with breathing, but if this is still difficult, then breathe naturally as you like.

The first sequence or what in yoga we call movements that are connected with the breath - vinyasa, is a variation of SN.

πŸ’› Starting position - Tadasana (mountain pose), the outer edges of the feet are parallel to each other;

πŸ’› Inhale - arms up, a slight bend back, exhale - fold forward;

πŸ’› Inhale - step back with your right foot, go to the plank, and as you exhale, lower your knees, chest, and chin onto the mat - Ashtanganamaskarasana;

πŸ’› Inhale - Bhujangasana (cobra pose) or can be replaced with an upward-facing dog, exhale - downward-facing dog 🐢;

πŸ’› Inhale - step forward with the right foot and then step with the left, exhale - fold forward;

πŸ’› Inhale - rise behind the hands up, a little back bend, and Exhale - return to Tadasana.

This is half the circle, now we repeat everything only stepping back and forward starting with the left foot 🀍.

Try to do SN for a month as a morning warm-up and observe your feelings, a boost of energy is guaranteed πŸ”₯!

There are many variations, SN is quite popular in the tradition of Sivananda yoga school, teachers come up with their own sun salutations, so choose whichever you like ✨.

My favorite version of SN is the sequence in the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga tradition. First, we do 5 circles of option "A" and then 5 circles of option "B". In "A" the transition to the plank and back can be done with a step, in "B" it is already better to make a jump and stand in the last downward facing dog for 5 breaths. I'll post the video soon πŸ”œ .

Do you practice Surya Namaskar while practicing yoga or separately? Are there any difficulties? Is it possible to rest in downward facing dog?))

My friends and I recently spoke about pregnancy yoga and discussed some myths about it:

1) Yoga for pregnant women is just a relaxation class.
In fact, the class can be quite intense, as we know that pregnancy is not a disease, but just a temporary condition :) forward bendings, squats, walking - it all keeps our body fit.

2) You can not practice inversions or twisting.
If you practiced a headstand before pregnancy, then continue to do this, only very carefully, because the center of gravity shifts, and the balance may no longer be as stable as before. Twists are allowed, but only open plans, where the belly is not pressed.

3) You can not go to a general class, but only to a prenatal one.
If you have an experienced teacher so why not? But in the first trimester, you really need to take care of yourself, and from the experience of many, I can say that there is no possibility for classes during this period 🀒

4) You can not raise your hands up, the child will get tangled in the umbilical cord.
This is a myth. There is no connection between the movements of the hands and the umbilical cord😜. But still, there is some sense here, try to avoid long static poses, here I'm talking about all poses, it's better to work in dynamics.

5) Did not exercise before pregnancy? Don't hesitate to start!
In part, there really is a logic here, there is no need to change your lifestyle in the present. If you were actively involved in sports/yoga before pregnancy, then just continue under the supervision of a competent instructor. No need to immediately rush headlong into all seriousness. But still, I would argue with this, because moderate exercise will be a plus, so yoga classes for pregnant women, walks and a pool is my recommendation for those who are not used to exercise!

What are your myths about pregnancy yoga?

The Purpose of Hatha YogaπŸ™πŸ»

Today, yoga is more about a fitness approach to well-being, the development of flexibility and physical activity, reducing stress and slowing down aging, and increasing energy levels.

Hatha yoga does perform all these functions, but they are side effects of the practice, and the highest goal of yoga is to achieve the state of kaivalya samadhi - the peak of raja yoga, where the practitioner achieves the highest spiritual experience. And when this stage is reached, hatha yoga ceases to be necessary.

It is emphasized that, despite all the amazing changes that the regular practice of hatha yoga causes, the practitioner should have the only goal - to prepare himself for the permanent state of raja yoga, that is, for samadhi.πŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜‡πŸ’™

In the next post, I will share with you more detail about what hatha yoga is and what experiences it includes, put any reactions to the comment if you are interested.
And waiting for you in our regular classes. πŸ˜‰

β€œYoga is not a forgotten ancient myth. This is the most valuable thing inherited by the present. The culture of today and the society of the future need it.”
Swami Satyananda Saraswati

From my fortitude of knowledge about yoga, I reveal how important regular practice for our mental health. Today I would like to share with you some thoughts about it.

Yoga is relevant now, although it is an ancient practice. We live at a tremendous speed, with constantly changing news, which puts our bodies under stress. Modern technologies that aim to improve our lives can also distract us from living in the present (how often do you check your phone during the day? 😜), the culture of hyper-productivity forces us to look for answers in the outside world - a better country, a city, a better job, the best partner, anything that will improve our condition.

We very rarely have free time, the body is in tension, the mind is rushing about, and the energy stagnates. But the body and spirit still want the silence and regularity of the way of life of our ancestors.

Yoga teaches us to seek answers within. Regular practice is known for reducing stress, increasing energy, and learning to be in the "here and now." With practice comes clarity of mind, patience, development of physical strength, a sense of connection with oneself and others, physical and mental flexibility, the ability to adapt, and improved physical and emotional health.

Yoga gives us the tools to break thought and emotional patterns that no longer serve us.

Researchers believe that somatic practices, such as yoga asanas, are useful in helping people process trauma, as they help relieve tension that is held in the body.

Would you like to benefit from practicing yoga? πŸ™πŸ»πŸ˜‡πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ
