Lorraine Madden Therapies

Lorraine Madden Therapies I am a Vodder and FG-MLD trained therapist. I am passionate about my therapies and the benefits I know they give. I tailor my treatments to the individual.

I completed my initial training in 2009 and worked in a Hospice using my therapies until 2015.I have seen the positive effects the therapies can have on people with life limiting illnesses. I have developed my therapies over the years and in 2014 I was accepted to study the Vodder method of Manual Lymphatic Drainage. I completed my training at the Vodder School in Austria under the watchful eye of one of the founders Hildegard Wittlinger who has dedicated her life to MLD (she is an amazing 80+year old).I share her passion for this therapy. I have a treatment room at home but I'm happy to do home visits if needed.

When it comes to having IV access, blood tests or blood pressure cuffs on an arm that either has lymphoedema or is at risk of developing LO, there are lots of conflicting opinions. Indeed, this is a fact sheet being given out by at Waikato Hospital.

The organisation of lymphatic therapists is very concerned about this, as there is no evidence to suggest that this practice is safe - there is actually an absence of evidence either way, and it's not something that CAN be tested ethically, so our position is that it's not worth testing. It might be fine 99% of the time, but what if the 1% that it's not happens with your arm?

Breast cancer and lymphedema, what’s the relationship between the two and why is screening for lymphedema so important? 💭

A little-known side effect with a huge impact, lymphedema can develop after lymph node surgery or radiation treatment. Although lymphedema is a lifelong risk, it is most likely to occur within the first four years after breast surgery and is best treated in the early stages—which is why screening for lymphedema should not only be the standard of care but is KEY! 🙌
