πŸ“’ Is a wound the only danger for people with DIABETES ? πŸ“’
NO❗️❗️❗️— and this is extremely important to understand.
In people with diabetes, all changes on the feet can be dangerous, even those that seem harmless.
Today, diabetes is a growing health problem. Some patients already have a diagnosis, some are still waiting for one, and many do not get tested at all β€” meaning they may have diabetes without knowing it.
In the clinic, I often hear: β€œIt’s just a callus.”
But very often, serious complications start exactly this way.
Constant pressure while walking causes a callus to:
β€’ become thicker and harder
β€’ grow deeper into the tissues
β€’ increase pressure on the skin
β€’ raise the risk of skin breakdown and wound formation
For a person with diabetes, even a small wound can heal very slowly and may lead to serious complications.Diabetes often does not cause pain due to nerve damage.
That is why medical pedicure is not cosmetic care β€” it is preventive healthcare.
Regular professional foot care:
β€’ reduces pressure on the skin
β€’ protects the tissues
β€’ prevents cracks and ulcers
β€’ significantly lowers the risk of diabetic foot complications

If you have diabetes or are at risk, regular preventive podiatry or Foot Health Practitioner visits should be a standard part of your healthcare plan.

An ingrown toenail was present on both lateral sides of the nail. The toe was in a severe inflammatory and infectious state, characterized by skin overgrowth at the nail edges, forming red, bumpy, and easily bleeding tissue (granulation tissue) due to chronic irritation and infection.

I utilized the UniBrace System therapy to promote healthy toenail growth and to separate the toenail from the lateral nail folds. This treatment process spanned one year and included regular follow-up visits. Regarding the duration of treatment, it is important to note that a toenail typically requires 12–18 months to fully regrow.

The ingrown toenail originated from the proximal portion of the nail on both lateral sides. By employing the UniBrace System, I modified the pressure distribution on the toenail toward the side ridges, preventing inward growth. This process is time-consuming because the entire toenail must grow out completely.
