Why not volunteer with Crustacean Compassion, they are a wonderful charity, dedicated to improving the welfare of decapod crustaceans such as crabs, lobsters and langoustines ( scampi) which are routinely subject to cruel treatment and inhumane slaughter.

🔟 To mark our 10th anniversary, we’re doing something new: every 10th of the month this year, we’ll share a simple, impactful way you can stand up for decapod welfare.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 This month, we’re inviting you to get involved behind the scenes.
We’re looking for a few volunteers to lend a claw - whether that’s helping with summer events, creating social media content, supporting us with data entry or admin, assisting with analysis and report writing, or even contributing graphic design skills. No huge commitment needed, just a bit of time and enthusiasm for improving crustacean welfare.

📣 Your voice matters. Your participation matters. Together, we can make 2026 a landmark year for decapod welfare.

Why not go along to the abbey today and say Hello to our friends at Nature's Laboratory Ltd, they'll be there with a wide range of all their wonderful products made right here in Whitby and there's lots of other amazing stalls to visit :)

Hi again everyone! Medical Herbalist Dylan is starting a Herbal Medicine Club at The Dispensary, 25 Skinner Street, Whitby. The club will meet monthly, and learn about one herb at each meet -up, whilst sipping herbal tea and other herbal preparations. First session will be on Thursday 30th April 7-8.30p.m., cost £11 per person. Book directly with Dylan via the email on the poster below! :)

On Wednesday 15th April, Dylan is running a "Herbs for your Nerves" workshop at The Dispensary, 25 Skinner Street, Whitby, 6.30p.m. - 8.30pm. On Sunday we celebrate the incredible care that mothers give – not only human mums, but the many mothers across the animal world who nurture, protect and guide their young with patience and devotion.
Motherhood reminds us of something deeply natural: the instinct to care, to protect life, and to help others grow and thrive. Of course, this care is not given only by mothers – many people, families and communities share in this work of kindness and support.
On Mother’s Day we can take a moment to recognise and honour that spirit of nurturing wherever it appears, in our homes, our communities, and throughout the living world.
It also reminds us of something we can all work towards – a world where care, compassion and kindness shape the way we live. A world where we treat each other, and our animal friends, with respect and understanding.
Wishing a peaceful and grateful Mother’s Day to all those who nurture, support and care for others every day.

Through their warmth, compassion and commitment to wellbeing, they help create a space where people feel welcome, supported and connected. Together they nurture not only health, but also community, caring for animals & our natural world and a true sense of belonging.
