We’ve just got a handful of spaces left for our AI Technicians Training Course on 28th November here at Twemlows.

This intensive, DEFRA-approved one-day course gives delegates valuable hands-on experience in artificial insemination, guided by our specialist reproduction team. It’s perfect for stud managers, breeders and veterinary professionals looking to expand their practical skill set.

Every Thursday at Twemlows we welcome our farriers from Uppington Smithy to the farm to take care of our herd’s feet. They do everything from trimming the recipient mares to corrective trimming for foals with angular limb deformities, and they are an integral part of our team.

When mares come to Twemlows we take care of every aspect of their care, and we never ignore how fundamental good foot care is – after all, no foot no horse.

Mares who stay with us while in foal receive the very best care from our yard staff and dedicated veterinary team. Part of this care includes the equine herpes vaccine, which all our pregnant mares receive at 5, 7 and 9 months of pregnancy.

𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (EHV-1) can cause abortion in pregnant mares. This extra vaccination helps build immunity to protect against the disease and reduces the risk of abortion. Alongside our vaccination programme we also ensure excellent management and biosecurity to reduce the risk.

Today we have been delighted to host the BEVA - The British Equine Veterinary Association 'Guttural pouch guru: from scoping to solutions' course at our Twemlows facilities giving attendees hands-on experience scoping live horses under expert guidance.

We now have only a small number of places left for our Artificial Insemination Technicians Training Course taking place on 28th November at Twemlows.

This one-day, DEFRA-approved programme provides hands-on, practical AI training for stud managers, breeders and veterinary professionals looking to develop or formalise their skills.

We also have a few places available on the Stallion Collection Course run by Stallion AI Services on the 27th November.

Weaning at Twemlows.

Did you know that you can leave your mare with us to foal and wean? With vets and yard staff on hand 24/7 all of the horses on our yard get the very best care and attention. And weaning is no different. Weaning, when the foal and mare are separated, occurs when the foal is between 5-7 months.

This can be a stressful time for the mare and foals, so we do everything we can to ensure their maximum health and happiness. When stressed foals can have a higher susceptibility to Lawsonia intracellularis infection. To protect against this we give all our foals a vaccine protecting them against Lawsonia.

Calling all stud farm owners.

Take part in this University of Liverpool survey, to help improve our knowledge of drug resistance in ascarids (large roundworm). Ascarid infection can cause a range of clinical signs in foals and young horses and your input is vital in shaping future control strategies.

Following on from the survey , the university will be conducting a UK-wide resistance screening initiative, including:
- FREE screening for the presence of ascarid resistance on UK stud farms.
- Real-time reporting for all participating studs, enabling informed treatment decisions around deworming products.

The survey is completely anonymous, and studs are under no obligation to take part in resistance screening.
