Mental wellbeing in older people is crucial, as they face unique challenges such as social isolation, physical health issues, and ageism, which can significantly impact their mental health.

Here at Wessex Lodge our residents have formed genuine friendships with each other and with the staff team. We took the opportunity to enjoy the afternoon sunshine by hosting a courtyard soiree, complete with snacks, music and laughters. 🌞📻😎

February is Dignity Action Month. This year the focus is on the "3 Little Deeds" initiative:
Spread Kindness 🤗
Listen Actively 👂
Promote Respect 💖

We asked our staff to write down their pledge in keeping with the 3 Little Deeds to promote Dignity within our home, share the 10 Dignity DOs and end the month with a Digni-tea.

We do recognise that maintaining Dignity in our home is an on-going day to day action, but it was nice that staff are able to celebrate this with the residents 🥰

With on-the-spot insider knowledge, our wonderful Activities Coordinator Gemma quickly arranged a last-minute surprise trip for a few of our resident train enthusiasts today.

Residents Peter and Raymond from Wessex Lodge and Phil from Berehill House went on an outing to Whitchurch Train Station. While waiting on the platform, they heard the distant chugging of an old train racing along the tracks. Greeted with by the whistling and blowing of the Dorset Coast Express, the residents were all smiles and waves as the steam engine rolled by. Sharing in the moment, it brought back nostalgic memories of train spotting and journeys they had been on.

A heartfelt thank you to Alex from Maintenance, Tracey from Housekeeping, carer Charles and Gemma who rallied together to help make this happen.

What an experience! It made really our residents' day - and their smiles made ours too.
