Are you missing out on Attendance Allowance?

Attendance Allowance is available to anyone of State Pension age with physical or mental disabilities and who need help with daily living tasks.

Attendance Allowance is not means tested so your finances won't be checked to work out if you are entitled. If you are awarded you may be entitled to other benefits such as Pension Credit as your living threshold will increase. You can also apply for attendance allowance if you pay for your care in a care home.

To claim, you don't need to be receiving assistance already, you just need to show that you will benefit from it.

Why might I not qualify for Attendance Allowance?
You are NOT eligible if...
- you already receive Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- you receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- you live in a care home and the local authority already contributes to your costs

How much is Attendance Allowance per week?
The amount of Attendance Allowance you get depends on whether you need help during the day or both day and night.
If you need help during the day: £73.90 Weekly
If you need help during the day and night: £110.40 Weekly

How do I apply for Attendance Allowance?

Contact the CAAS team for help to complete the application.

If you’re struggling and need someone to talk to, you don’t have to wait. We've launched a new 'Virtual Safe Haven' – giving people across Whitehaven and Copeland the chance to speak to a trained mental health support worker online, the very same day.

🕓 When? 4pm–midnight, every day of the week.
💻 Where? Online video call (you’ll just need a phone, tablet or computer with internet)
👉 How? Book your appointment in a few clicks using the link on our webpage: https://wcmhp.org.uk/hope-haven/

An Everyturn Mental Health support worker can listen, talk through what’s happening for you, and work with you on a plan for ongoing support if you’d like. You don’t need a referral, and there’s no waiting list.

Hope Haven’s new home on King Street is being refurbished and will open later this year as a welcoming place where anyone can walk in for help. Until then, you’ll also find us out in the community, at weekly drop-ins, wellbeing walks, and our chatty café. (Check out the 'events' section on our Facebook profile for details.)

If you’re finding things tough, don’t wait 💚 Book your 'Virtual Safe Haven' appointment today, and get support when you need it.

Celebrate autumn by hosting a Harvest Fest!

Celebrate local food, eat sustainably, and bring your community together this autumn.

Every autumn, communities across the UK come together to mark the end of the growing season – enjoying local produce, the chance to gather, share food, and spend time with neighbours. It’s a great way to reconnect with the land and each other- whether that’s through cooking, growing, or simply sharing a meal.

Thanks to support from the Food Cumberland Partnership, community groups, schools, Parish Councils and others can now apply for up to £150 in funding to bring a Harvest Fest event to life in Autumn 2025 – with food-based fun that feeds both bellies and community spirit.

At our recent Memory Café we were joined by Marc Goodwin, Whitehaven Town Crier. He told the history of the Town Crier and what he gets up to in the role 🔔

We had a game of Heads n tails and Sit down not stand up bingo; Gerard Richardson donated books as prizes and there were afternoon tea packs to win 🏆

The Café runs every 2 weeks 11.00am -12.30pm at Whitehaven Rufc and is also attended by the NHS Memory Matters Team for advice and support to carers.

Copeland Age & Advice Service

“Giving our older generation the opportunity to live fulfilled & independent lives, through providing personalised advice & support”

Who we are:

We are a not for profit Social Enterprise providing information, advice and guidance to over 55’s in Copeland on financial matters, housing issues and living safely and independently wherever they choose.

We decided to set up this social enterprise as we identified a huge gap in service provision which was having an impact on clients, their families, NHS, Social Care and other third sector organisations who were already under great strain.
