Dementia Week Activities

Today we have lots of activities happening outside Hope Haven for Dementia Week.

We have the Virtual dementia Tour van located in Whitehaven market place until 4pm today.

The dischord wellbeing choir will be singing in the market place at midday. and the Town Crier will be in attendance.

We have had some fantastic raffle donations including:
* Beamish - 2 x day passes
* West Coast Karting – x2 £25 vouchers
* The Lake district coast Aquarium – Family pass
* Rum Story – Family pass
* Extreme fitness – one month gym membership
* The Beacon – day pass.
* The lunch box - 1 regular sandwich platter
* Mawson’s ice cream parlour - £20 gift voucher
* Three Frogs – £20 voucher
* Rusty Crab - £20 voucher
* Oldal Espresso café - £20 vouchers
* Tony Marks Hairdressers - £30
plus many more amazing prizes.

Raffle tickets are available from the stall outside of Hope Haven and monies raised will go to the CNTW charity's memory and later life fund.

We also have our usual Hope Haven services running in the building.

As part of Dementia Awareness Week, The Dementia Tour experience offers a powerful, hands-on insight into the everyday challenges people face. It’s eye-opening, emotional and incredibly valuable for building understanding and empathy.

📍 You’ll find the Dementia Tour van in the Market Place, opposite the Hope Haven building

⏰ 10:00 – 16:30

Spaces on the bus are limited and first come, first served, so there may be a short wait — but don’t worry, Hope Haven will be open for a cuppa while you wait ☕

We’re open:

9:30am – midnight Mondays to Fridays (including on Bank Holidays)
4pm – midnight on Saturdays and Sundays

Just walk in and talk to us about what you’d like our help with. (We have private rooms to use if you’d prefer a more discreet conversation.)

Or book an online appointment with our ‘virtual safe haven’ to speak to a support worker between 4pm and midnight, seven days a week. (click the link below)

Lots happening at Hope Haven today and we’d love to see you!

As part of Dementia Awareness Week, our wonderful Memory and Later Life team are hosting a friendly drop-in session in our Welcome Area. Pop in for a cuppa and a chat, and find out what support is available for you or your loved ones.

We also have our pharmacist on site offering confidential one-to-one sessions. Whether you have questions about a new prescription, managing long-term medication, or just want some reassurance, you’re very welcome—no pressure, just supportive, professional advice.

The Dementia Tour van will be located in the market place in Whitehaven opposite the Hope Haven building. There is limited room on the bus so there may be a wait, but the Hope Haven building will be open for you to pop in for a cuppa. Spaces on the bus will be provided on a first come first served basis.

At 12pm there will be a performance by Discord Wellbeing Choir and we will also have the wonderful Mark Goodwin the Whitehaven Town Crier.

Join the FREE Dementia Training session with Matt Dawkin – Principal Psychological Therapist and gain knowledge and awareness:
• Understanding more about dementia
• Gain awareness on how to communicate with loved ones with dementia
• Learn how to offer the right support
