CUSTOMERS WHO BUY SEED AND PEANUTS FROM OUR PET SECTION TO FEED BIRDS!

The RSPB are asking that people take down bird feeders between May 1st and 31st October to help prevent the spread of bird flu.

It is believed birds cluster around them and it encourages the spread of the disease.

They advise you can still feed birds small amounts of protein like Mealworms, fat balls or suet, which are useful to them in feeding chicks at this time.

These will be available from
The pharmacy.

Thank you.

We all want to help birds and make our gardens or outdoor spaces a place where all wildlife can thrive. But some species, such as Greenfinches, are experiencing serious declines because of disease.

Pharmacy First is a Free NHS Service for patients registered with a GP practice in Scotland. It allows us to give free advice and, in some cases, free medication in the pharmacy without you needing to see a GP - unless we feel you need to be referred to one.

To check eligibility for the service, our teams need to ask you a couple of simple questions. Your name, Date of Birth and Postcode. This is to ensure we can accurately record the consultations we have provided and that we get paid for that work as well.

Thanks for your understanding.

Thinking About Getting Some Help With Weight Loss?
If you’ve been trying to lose weight on your own and feel like you’re getting nowhere, you’re not the only one. A lot of people come to us saying, “I’ve tried every diet going – what next?”

Our pharmacy weight‑loss service is all about working that out with you, safely and sensibly.

What actually happens at the pharmacy?
It starts with a private chat. We’ll check a few basics – things like weight, height and blood pressure – and talk through your health, your current medicines and what you’ve tried before.

From there, we look at three strands:

everyday stuff like food, activity and sleep

any health issues that might be getting in the way

whether some form of medical treatment might be worth discussing

Sometimes the right answer is simple lifestyle support and some regular check‑ins. Sometimes we’ll suggest chatting to your GP or another service if that’s a better fit.

What about medical treatments?
For some people, lifestyle changes on their own just aren’t enough. In those cases, a healthcare professional might consider adding a medicine as part of the overall plan.

That could include:

non‑prescription options that a pharmacist can supply if they’re suitable for you

prescription treatments that can only be started after a proper consultation with a prescriber

or, in some situations, referral on for more specialist care

We’ll always explain things in plain English – how the treatment works in general, how it’s taken, how long it’s usually used for, and the kind of side effects or checks you need to know about. The key point: nothing is “one‑size‑fits‑all”, and nothing is decided without a proper discussion.

Keeping it safe and realistic
Whatever route you take, we’ll keep an eye on:

how you’re feeling

any side effects

whether the plan is actually working for you in real life

If it’s not helping, or if something else would be safer or more effective, we’ll say so – even if that means stopping a treatment or involving your GP.

Fancy a chat about it?
If you’re curious about what support might look like for you, pop in or give us a call and ask about our weight‑loss service. We can talk through your situation and let you know what the next step could be.

This post is general information only – it can’t tell you whether any particular treatment is right for you. That always needs a one‑to‑one conversation with a healthcare professional.

Thinking of seeking support for weight loss?

If your solo efforts have stalled, you're not alone.

Many tell us, “I’ve tried every diet imaginable – now what?” Our pharmacy weight-loss service is about collaborating with you safely and sensibly.

What happens at the pharmacy? It begins with a private conversation. We'll assess basics like weight, height, and blood pressure, and discuss your health, current medications, and past attempts. We focus on three aspects:

- Daily habits like nutrition, exercise, and sleep
- Health issues that could be hindering progress
- The possibility of medical treatment

Sometimes, simple lifestyle advice and regular follow-ups suffice. Other times, we might suggest speaking with your GP or another service if it suits you better.

What about medical treatments? Lifestyle changes may not be enough for everyone. In such cases, a healthcare professional might consider adding medication to your plan. This could involve:

- Non-prescription options available from a pharmacist if appropriate
- Prescription treatments initiated after a thorough consultation
- Referral for specialized care if necessary

We'll explain everything clearly – how treatments work, how to use them, expected duration, and possible side effects or checks. Remember, there’s no “one-size-fits-all” approach, and decisions are made after thorough discussion.

Ensuring safety and realism, we'll monitor:

- Your wellbeing
- Any side effects
- The plan’s real-world effectiveness

If it’s ineffective or another option is safer, we’ll advise change, even if it involves stopping a treatment or involving your GP.

Keen for a chat? If you’re curious about potential support, visit us or call to inquire about our weight-loss service. We can discuss your situation and suggest the next step.

Note: This information is general; specific treatment suitability requires a personal consultation with a healthcare professional.
