๐Ÿซถ SUPPORT FOR SIBLINGS... ๐Ÿซถ

A FANTASTIC resource for families whose siblings struggle with unpredictable and challenging behaviours from Sibs - for brothers and sisters.

๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Behaviours that challenge can feel overwhelming for siblings who have a disabled or neurodivergent brother or sister.

These booklets help children make sense of whatโ€™s happening, reassures them that their feelings are valid, and shows them theyโ€™re not alone ๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ“„ THE WHITE PAPER - SEND REFORM ๐Ÿ“„

The Council for Disabled Children have released details of a national consultation running until the 18th of May which aims to put children and young people first.

You can find full details and a link to the consultation below. ๐Ÿ‘‡

On Monday 23rd February the Department for Education published its schools white paper Every Child Achieving and Thriving which shares its plan to reform special educational needs and disability (SEND) support in early years, schools and colleges.

Alongside the White Paper is a national consultation called putting children and young people first, running until 18th May 2026. The Council for Disabled Childrenโ€™s Participation team is working throughout this consultation period to support disabled children and young people, and those with special educational needs, to share their thoughts, experiences, and ideas, and help shape the SEND reforms.

We've recently published engagement plans and resources on five areas from the consultation to support those who wish to run their own sessions. These are:

๐Ÿ‘‰Accountability
๐Ÿ‘‰Layers of Support
๐Ÿ‘‰Universal Offer and Reasonable Adjustments
๐Ÿ‘‰National Curriculum
๐Ÿ‘‰Inclusion Standards and National Training

There are also accessible guides for these areas. These areas of focus were decided by children and young people who thought that these were important areas to have disabled children and young people and those with special educational needs to discuss. You can use these guides and engagement materials to talk with children and young people about the changes the government would like to make and help them understand how it might affect them.

You can find the inclusive materials and engagement plans here: Voices of children and young people in the SEND reforms

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with us at participation@ncb.org.uk.

๐Ÿ‘‰ RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY ๐Ÿ‘ˆ

We are sharing this research opportunity on Gaming with SEND for any of our families who may wish to be involved.

Full details are on the poster attached and we have provided some context below:

'I am carrying out a small research study exploring the experiences of online gaming among young people who experience school attendance difficulties, including those with SEND. The aim is to better understand what gaming offers young people in terms of motivation, identity, and wellbeing. Iโ€™m hoping that it will be a really lovely opportunity for young people to talk about their passions and how their needs might be better met within an education setting.'
