When the winter goes on forever 😴 and things are not be going in the right direction, it is easy to see only the negative and miss the good in your day. It doesn’t have to be big things - I’m grateful today for having a cup of tea bought to me in bed. 🥰 Look for the things your grateful for it will lift your mood.

Creating a safe space explained on the Mighty Cards below can be used when they have overwhelming feelings at school.
At home imagine a safe place, somewhere they have been or somewhere in their imagination, get them to make the colours bright and colorful, you can get them to lock in those nice feelings by anchoring them by pinching two fingers together. When they feel overwhelmed at school they can pinch the fingers together to take them back to their safe place.

Returning to school Day 3
We hold onto tension without realising it, but it’s not good for your body to be in permanent ‘flight or fight’ mode. Try the exercise below from Mighty Cards everyday as we approach going back to school. You can add shaking your body at the end of it. Did you know you can’t be angry and shake you body at the same time. 😊

Back to school day 2.
We take breathing for granted and an adult takes on average 23,000 breaths in a day. Taking mindful breaths every day can calm your nervous system. When we feel anxious we go into fight or flight mode activating our sympathetic nervous system and our breath is shallow and from our chest. To activate our parasympathetic nervous system try the breathing exercise below from Mighty Cards breathing from our stomachs and slowing the breath down. This is good for children when they are feeling anxious about returning/starting a new school and adults alike.
