When your teen says “I don’t know why I feel like this…”

They’re not being difficult their brain is genuinely confused.
Teen brains are still wiring up the emotional part develops faster than the rational part, which means anxiety can feel louder than logic.

That’s why your teen might freeze before school, cancel plans last minute, or feel on edge for no clear reason. It’s not attitude it’s biology.

The good news? Once they understand what’s happening inside their mind, things start to shift.
In sessions, I teach teens how to recognise their body’s anxiety signals, calm the storm, and build trust in themselves again.

FAQ about hypnotherapy

I get asked quite often what hypnotherapy is really like so here are a few things that might put your mind at ease:

💭 “Will I lose control?”
No. You’re still completely aware and in charge the whole time. Think of it more like guided relaxation where your mind is focused and calm.

😴 “Am I asleep?”
Not at all you’re just deeply relaxed, a bit like when you’re daydreaming or drifting off before sleep.

“What does it feel like?”
Everyone’s different, but most people describe it as peaceful, calm, and surprisingly normal. It’s not magic just a space where your mind feels safe enough to make positive changes.

“What can it help with?”
Anxiety, sleep, confidence, worries, habits, fears both for children and adults. It’s gentle, practical, and tailored to each person.

Separation Anxiety – it’s not just “clinginess”

As a mum myself, I know how heart-wrenching it can feel when your child struggles to let go of your hand, whether it’s at the school gate, a sleepover, or even just popping into another room. It’s not just difficult for them, it can leave you feeling anxious, guilty, or even frustrated too.

The truth is, separation anxiety is really common. For some children it’s a phase, and for others it can feel overwhelming and get in the way of daily life. That’s where gentle, child-led support can make such a difference.

In my hypnotherapy sessions, I use calm techniques (sometimes alongside games, stories or fidgets) to help children:

Feel safe and secure in their own body
Build confidence in being apart from their parent
Learn simple coping tools they can use in real life moments

Every child is different, so sessions are relaxed, playful, and tailored to what helps them feel safe. Parents are always part of the journey too you’re not left out.

🌟 Teenagers & Worries 🌟

Being a teenager can feel so much harder than people realise. The exams, the friendships, the pressure to fit in, the constant noise of social media… it’s a lot.

As a mum (with teens myself), I get it. Sometimes worries build up and feel huge, like they’re sitting right on your chest. And no matter how many times someone says “don’t worry,” it doesn’t make them go away.
Here’s one small thing that helps 👉 Try naming the worry out loud (or in your head) like: “That’s my ‘what if’ worry again.”
It sounds simple, but giving it a name takes some of its power away. You’re showing your brain that you’re the boss, not the worry.
If your teen (or you) feels stuck in a cycle of worries, hypnotherapy can be a gentle way to learn calming tools and build confidence. It’s not about “fixing” you — it’s about helping you feel more in control.

Hello and thank you for visiting my page! I’m Rebecca Holley a qualified hypnotherapist, Hypno4Children practitioner, and mum of four.

At Willow Hypnotherapy, I offer gentle, client-led support for both adults and children. Whether it’s managing anxiety, building confidence, overcoming fears, or simply finding more calm in everyday life, I use a combination of hypnotherapy and CBT-techniques to help you (or your child) feel supported and empowered.

My therapy room is relaxed and welcoming complete with fidget toys, games, and activities for children, and a safe, calming space for adults.

🌟 Social anxiety can feel really heavy when you’re a teenager

It’s not just “being shy” it’s the racing thoughts, worrying what everyone’s thinking about you, or feeling sick at the idea of speaking up in class or walking into a busy room.

As a mum, I see how much pressure young people are under. Social media, school, friendships… it can all feel a bit overwhelming. And when you’re stuck in that anxious loop, it’s hard to see a way out.

This is where hypnotherapy can really help.
Together we can calm those racing thoughts, build confidence, and teach your mind new ways of coping so you don’t feel trapped by anxiety. The sessions are gentle, relaxed, and tailored to you nothing scary, just small steps that make a big difference.

Fears & Anxiety Connection

Did you know most fears are rooted in anxiety?

When the brain senses danger – real or imagined – it flips into protection mode. That’s where fears and phobias begin.

🐶 For a child, it might be a fear of dogs after one loud bark.
✈️ For an adult, it might be a fear of flying, even if nothing bad has ever happened.

What’s really going on?
The brain is creating a link: “this thing = unsafe.”
The fear response is the body’s way of saying “avoid it, stay safe!”

The good news is: those links can be gently rewired.
Hypnotherapy helps calm the anxiety beneath the fear, teaching the brain a new message – “you’re safe now.”

Fears don’t have to control your life (or your child’s life).
