AAC and Me supports schools and families with teaching-led AAC and assistive technology, helping build confidence and consistency across everyday environments.

If you are unsure where to start, or want to strengthen what you are already doing, support is available.

🌟 PA’s WANTED – Spokey Dokey Badge Club (York) 🌟

We’re looking for enthusiastic and reliable Personal Assistants (PA’s) to support disabled children at our Spokey Dokey Badge Club this Easter!

📍 Location: Homestead Park, York
📅 Dates: 2nd & 3rd April
⏰ Time: 8:30am – 5:30pm
💷 Pay: £17 per hour (paid lunch included)

This is a fun, active, and rewarding role supporting children to take part in structured badge activities during the school holidays – when very limited provision exists.

✅ Must have an enhanced DBS check
✅ Experience supporting disabled children preferred
✅ Positive, patient and proactive attitude essential

We’re back from today’s Badge Club x SENses session and it was such a lovely one.

It was really nice to welcome a few more families than last time and the hall had that easy, settled feel from the start.

The marble run was the clear favourite, closely followed by the train tracks and a surprisingly enthusiastic parachute moment.

It felt relaxed, friendly and genuinely welcoming. Exactly what we hope for.

Badge Club check-in 👋

Life’s been a bit busy and a bit challenging recently, so before I charge ahead… I want to ask you.

We could run Badge Club on 19th & 20th February at the Whixley Village Hall.

The hall is on standby, the toys are booked from the toy library, and we’ve even had a very generous donation via The Giving Machine ❤️

A few practical bits:
Building works at the front door (still accessible, just not pretty)
No staff this time, but parents, carers and PAs are very welcome to attend and support
Free tea & coffee ☕
Easy parking 🚗
Level access and an accessible loo ♿

So the real question is…

Do you want it?

If there’s appetite, we’ll make it happen.

If not, we can pause and aim for Easter, when things (hopefully) feel a bit calmer and we may have Feast and HAF funding lined up for Knaresborough and York.

No wrong answers. Just trying to do the right thing at the right time 💛

I’ve been out and about looking at venues in York, Whixley and Knaresborough for February half term. Lots of possibilities, lots of cups of tea, lots of “this could work…” moments ☕️
But before we lock anything in, I’d really love your help.
What badges should we run this February half term?
If your young person could design their dream Badge Club day, what would it include?
Would they love something active like cycling, games or movement?
Something creative like art, music or making?
Something calm and sensory?
Or a themed day that lets them explore an interest and earn a badge just for being part of it?
We want half term to feel exciting, inclusive and genuinely led by what young people enjoy, not what we assume they might like.
So tell me…
What would your young person enjoy doing?
What badge would they be proud to take home?

We’re starting small with Spokey Dokey Badge Club — a stay & play where kids can earn badges, have fun, and be themselves.
One day, with the right venue, we’ll grow into the full holiday club dream.
