We’d like to share an important update regarding UX Healthcare Rotterdam.

Due to the ongoing geopolitical conflict, which has impacted the ability of several of our speakers and community members to travel, we have made the decision to postpone the event to 17–18 September 2026.

This was not an easy decision. Our priority has always been to create an inclusive, globally accessible platform for collaboration, and under the current circumstances, we believe this is the most responsible path forward.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and truly appreciate the understanding and continued support of our community.
We remain committed to delivering an exceptional event in September and look forward to bringing everyone together then.

🎙️ Atike Pekel
Lead Designer – Experience Design, Philips
Atike’s work focuses on building design systems and experiences that support clinicians and improve patient outcomes at scale. At the conference, Atike will explore how experience design can bridge the gap between technology, clinical workflows, and patient needs, ensuring that innovation in healthcare truly serves the people who rely on it.

Product Design Lead
Natalie Fitak brings deep expertise in product design leadership and user-centered innovation. Her work focuses on designing systems that empower clinicians while improving patient journeys across complex healthcare environments.

Dr Lizette Spangenberg is a UX Researcher and Designer specialising in digital health and healthcare systems. She holds a PhD in Information Design, with research focused on human-centred design in clinical environments, and currently works on telehealth platforms that support both patients and clinicians.

Dian Wessels - Content Design Principles for Patient-Centric UX

Designing for patients navigating pre-approval treatment options—such as clinical trials and expanded access—requires more than good UX writing. It demands content that is consistent, accessible, emotionally sensitive, and capable of guiding people through some of the most complex decisions of their lives. n this session, I’ll share practical content design principles drawn directly from our own patient journey mapping and onboarding flows. You’ll see how we improved consistency, improved reading level, and increased accessibility across touchpoints — from first-contact forms to communications with our patient navigators. We’ll unpack real examples of before-and-after copy, revealing the small but critical shifts that meaningfully improve comprehension and trust.

UX Healthcare was born in 2016. Healthcare was never the obvious path.

Like many designers and technologists, my journey started with curiosity — about people, systems, and how things could work better. UX Healthcare Europe didn’t begin as a conference or a community. It started with conversations. Frustrations. Personal illness. Questions. A realisation that healthcare is one of the most complex environments you can design for — and one of the most important. I've had first hand experience with the complexities.

Over the years, I met AMAZING designers, clinicians, researchers, developers, and leaders who all shared the same challenge:
We want to make healthcare better — but we don’t always know where to start.
UX Healthcare was created to make that starting point clearer.
