As we approach the festive season, it’s natural for those grieving to reflect on how to keep the memory of a loved one alive during Christmas. While it’s a time of joy for many, it can also bring moments of deep sadness. Here are some gentle ways to honour your loved one and keep them close in your heart this Christmas:

- Create a Memory Ornament: Hang a special decoration on your tree that reminds you of them, such as a photo bauble or something they loved.

- Light a Candle: Dedicate a quiet moment during the holidays to light a candle in their memory.

- Share Stories: Set aside time with friends and family to reminisce, sharing stories and happy memories that bring comfort.

- Write a Letter: Express your feelings by writing to your loved one, sharing your thoughts, and keeping their presence alive in your life.

- Give in Their Honour: Donate to a cause they cared about or volunteer your time to spread kindness in their memory.

Grieving is natural, though it can feel overwhelming. Opening up to family and friends may help, as can connecting with organisations that offer support and guidance:

- The Good Grief Trust offers resources and peer support led by others who’ve experienced loss.

- Cruse Bereavement Support provides free counselling and has over 80 branches across the UK with a supportive helpline.

- Winston's Wish - giving hope to grieving children offers assistance specifically for children and young people affected by the death of a loved one.

- Child Bereavement UK supports families dealing with the loss of a child or helping a child cope with loss, providing individual support, helplines, and group sessions for children and their caregivers.
