Had my first K1 Kickboxing comp the other week, more of a learning scenario. Very much out of my comfort zone but was very enjoyable even though I was gassed, knackered, and absolutely fcukd in the final.
Need more fitness a lot more.

You may well find that you need a trainer to guide you into self-recovery efforts until you are happy that you are training autonomously, and have integrated training into your life. If you can find a professional instructor who has been trained to support the work of hospital therapists, as ARNI trainers have been, and they can facilitate you to recover independently, you are one step ahead.

BUILD STRENGTH THROUGH FORGIVENESS.

I absolutely love this quote -

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is an attribute of the strong" - Mahatma Gandhi

We all know what we need to do to build our physical strength, but forgiving yourself and others truly and completely, helps you develop and maintain a much heathier attitude. In turn this allows you to move forward in life and contributes towards your mental strength.

Are there any aspects of your past that you are still harbouring grudges and ill feeling about? Are there situations that you are ready free yourself from?

Be honest with yourself. Recognise it, feel the emotions and then remind yourself you have an element of control.

Tell yourself it is time to let the negative feelings go and start to forgive that person or yourself. You can then begin to put the situation in the past where it belongs.

Hands up who doesn't like change?

Well, no change means that we stay stagnant. We're in our comfort zones of what we know. And that's not necessarily a good place.

We can be filled with anxieties and stresses which take their toll on our body and mind. But they're still a comfort zone, because it's come to be 'what we know' and the thought of the unknown is even worse than the place we're in.

However, I encourage you today, on this glorious weekend, to think outside the box of something that you'd like to do and the reasons why you should try it.

If you progress to physically doing it, then kudos, but be kind to yourself first... Figuring out the reasons why we should work towards it is a major step in its own right.

Over the weekend I abseiled down Liverpool Cathedral with a number of other people, all in aid of raising money for Willowbrook Hospice . My slot was into the early evening, and the sights were beautiful with the sun at that time.

I've never abseiled before and the nerves and anxiety hit me as I drove into the grounds and saw how tall the building is. I soon realised it was another part of the Cathedral so only the 150 meters high 😜.

I soon gathered my knowledge of breath work and being present which then led me to enjoy the event and relax more. At the time of the abseil I focussed on the instructors voices and keeping relaxed and focussing on the moment and changing my nerves to enjoyment. This made me think...

Seeking self-worth in other people’s opinions.

Too many times I have people join my programmes who are embarrassed to be in a gym as they are afraid of others judging them and see themselves in a negative light. In some cases, even family and friends have told them they are lazy, too unfit, a waste of space not healthy enough before they have even started.

What that person thinks of me is more important of what I think of myself.
Its important not to live your life seeking other people’s approval. Your self-esteem is then located in the other person or persons it is not located in the “self” – you.
Its obviously nice to get approval but its not vital to get approval. Accepting that people will have opinions of you is normal and in life opinions will differ do not let them change who you are.

Don’t let other people demobilise or knock your confidence. We all have different opinions and views.

“As you think so shall you be”
Do you ever refer to yourself as - I am so clumsy, I’m no good at, I’m so forgetful, I can’t stop eating chocolate, I am just meant to be, It’s how I was bought up, I’m big b***d, I’m rubbish at or I hate the gym I’m just not fit enough etc etc etc ……
This negative self-judgement is also manifested in believing the worst in situations such as bad luck just follows me around, an email from the boss triggers you into thinking what have I done wrong. Catastrophising situations that have not happened (and probably never will do) and focussing on the negative past.
Are these not the exact items that you want to change about yourself ?
If you repeat these thoughts and patterns by telling people and yourself this then over time it becomes what you believe it’s a second nature a habit and things will never change.
Next time you are in a situation where a comment like the above where you would label yourself, be aware and change the language, vision and negative belief you use about yourself.
For example, choose positive aspects and change the negative ones into positive ones.
“I am good at” or “I achieved” “I managed to do…the other day and felt amazing”

Lifestyle Changes do not happen overnight. We can’t un-do YEARS of neglecting our health in one salad or one workout. But, if you slowly adopt healthier habits - you will slowly create your new LIFESTYLE.

Things like sleep, reduce stress, eat nutritiously, lift weights, do cardio, walk/bike ride instead of driving, parking further away, increase water intake....it can be massively overwhelming to try and incorporate all these things at once. So take it day by day, week by week, month by month. If you keep the focus there, you will soon be living it and won’t have to think twice.

On the flip side, if you lose focus, old habits can resurface. This is where consistency and a little bit of discipline comes in. If you find you’ve been “out of it” for a short time “force yourself” to hit the gym today, or make your own meals today, or get outside today (notice how I’m not saying tomorrow...I’m saying RIGHT now. Today.)
