Cervical screening (which used to be called a smear test) is a free NHS health test that’s offered to women and all people with a cervix between the ages of 25 and 64. It helps prevent cervical cancer by checking for human papillomavirus (HPV). Screening saves over 5,000 lives a year. It’s a quick test, and we’ll make you feel relaxed and comfortable. Today is World Sickle Cell Day when we aim to raise awareness of sickle cell disorder across the world, how to support those with the disorder and understand the challenges experienced by patients and their families and caregivers.

One of the main symptoms is painful episodes called sickle cell crises, which can be severe and can last for days or weeks. Managing your lifestyle can help to minimise the risk of these episodes. Always speak to your GP if you’re struggling with the symptoms.
