Sometimes we need a little extra support in order to thrive …
The tree is this image is a cedar, planted to mark the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria, it is around 138 years old. Positioned too close to a group of oak trees, it grew crooked in order to get sufficient sunlight. Then in the winter of 1999/2000 a severe storm caused the root plate to lift from the ground and the tree began to fall. Props were put in place to support it and the base of the tree is now protected by a fence. And so this magnificent tree continues to grow and to thrive.
Seeing this tree and reading its story made me think about how much human growth and development depends on having the right environment, good enough support and clear boundaries.
Just like this majestic cedar, sometimes life throws at us more than we can manage. We may stumble, feel uprooted by the pain of grief or find ourselves falling into depression, anxiety or burnout. In these moments, we need extra support to recover and get back on track.
Like the carefully placed timbers propping up this tree, therapy can offer you that support. Therapy provides a space to recover, reconnect and grow.
