We regularly bring residents to the Dementia Cafe at The Salvation Army. ☕

It's a welcoming space where those living with dementia, their families and carers can meet for a cuppa and a chat.

This week Gladys, Trish, Lillian, Les and Carol joined our Wellbeing Lead Ashley. It's become a highlight of our week. The atmosphere is warm, inclusive and offers calm and connection for everyone there.

We're proud to be part of this community. 💚

Celebrating Les and Carol's 59th wedding anniversary. 💐

Les is new to Shawcross and this was their first anniversary not spent at home. Les got dressed up in his best and stood in the lounge with a bouquet of flowers, waiting for Carol.

When she walked in and saw him standing there, her eyes lit up and the whole room had tears in their eyes.

We spent the day together at the dementia café in Ashton talking about the memories they've shared over nearly six decades.

Carol said she was so grateful to see Les ready and waiting with flowers.

Being there for each other and our loved ones through milestones like this is big part of life here at Shawcross. 💚

An afternoon with Glo Sing! 🎵

Live music is so important to us. It's wonderful to watch, but it's more than that, music creates connection, gets people dancing and fills the room with joy.

It's also a brilliant opportunity for residents and their loved ones to spend quality time together, sharing memories and making new ones.

James, John and Les sat down for dominoes this week. 🎲

We use larger wooden pieces which are tactile and easier to handle for those living with dementia. The room was peaceful, everyone content and focused on the game.

We play games like dominoes because they support cognitive function, problem-solving and social connection. Research shows that familiar activities help maintain skills and provide a sense of purpose and achievement.

☕💚 Macmillan Coffee Morning.🌟🍰

We invited loved ones and our Ashton community to enjoy coffee, cake and good company while raising money for an important cause.

Events like this strengthen connections and create shared purpose. It’s a reminder of how much we can achieve when we support each other.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped raise an incredible £120. 🎉

What a wonderful morning at the Ashton Dementia Café. 🎉

Les and Brenda joined Wellbeing Lead Ashley alongside their family. They chatted to local schoolchildren about memories of playing hopscotch and bulldog and the children shared what they enjoy playing too.

Brenda had a fantastic time playing a face recognition game with them. These activities are particularly beneficial for people living with dementia because they exercise visual and social processing pathways.

She loved it so much that on the way home, she asked if we could get the same game for the home. Of course we said yes and she can't wait to introduce it to other residents.

It's a joy to see more and more residents joining our musical sessions. 🥰

We had an amazing afternoon with local singer Jill Fielding, filled with singing, dancing and heartfelt moments of joy and laughter.

Live entertainment like this has such a positive impact on everyone's well-being and strengthens our wonderful shared community here at Shawcross.

🌿 Janet and our Wellbeing Lead Ashley spent some wonderful one-to-one time getting to know each other better over a cup of tea at the Stubshaw Cross Community Club.

Outings like this are an important part of person-centred care. By listening to what matters to each resident, we can support independence and create opportunities that bring joy into daily life.

It’s all part of how we live our values at Shawcross by being authentic, creating relationships and being there for each other.
