Even on misty, murky mornings it’s still preferable to be out and about, moving my body, getting embodied, dropping in and receiving the abundance that is nature even in the rain!

I find this more preferable than sitting at my PC, on my laptop, on my phone doomscrolling, getting upset and discombobulated, trying to manage my brainfog. This dispels it! Being out in nature, moving and feeling immersed, feeling at one, feeling embodied, alive, vibrant and full of life.

I am grateful when I can get myself out and immerse myself in nature and feel that inner peace, inner harmony and feeling at one with myself. There’s no greater feeling!

We are sentient beings, made to move! Whilst I can let myself get into those stuck state of stress easily – of either hyper or hypo vigilance – where I can feel disempowered, disconnected, discombobulated… I remind myself I have agency and with little daily practices, micromoments of movement, I can shift my physiology back into better states of feeling empowered, connected and expansive.

It’s all down to our physiology! How empowering to feel we have control to change our minds – by shifting our internal state of being – by moving!

Try not to let self development become yet another stick with which to beat yourself up.

There's always going to be another podcast, another book, another course, another guru… Instead come back to what is true for you, what brings you joy, what motivates you, what makes you feel alive and embodied.

For me, getting out in nature enables me to drop in and get grounded. To come back to myself and realise what's really important to me, which is being embodied, feeling nourished and nurtured.

This keeps me away from that dreaded monkey mind which really discombobulates me, confuses me and gives me brain fog.

Avoid the hamster wheel of self development which becomes self flagellation! We can end up in the never never land – of never arriving, of never feeling good enough. Instead, how about we practice self acceptance and make this a big part of our self development project.

Choosing to do more of what we love. Surely this is the ticket, the golden ticket and ultimate purpose of all self development.

We can feel lost at key moments of big change in our life, or feel lost at our core from a traumatised childhood.

A lovely practice to return to again and again to regain a sense of self is a values audit.

What do you value, what do you not value.

Values define us for ourselves and provide a platform from which to build up our identity and from that, our lifestyle choices.

It is fluid and changeable, as we grow and expand.

So, to return to the self time and time again and identify and ascertain what are our values is a helpful practice. To gain that sense of self and to feel that anchoring in, rather than floundering and feeling pushed from pillar to post from the barrage of external influences, searching for answers outside and abandoning ourselves.

How to manage triggers that send us into functional freeze.

We will always be triggered – that’s life.
It’s how we manage the triggers in the present differently to old coping strategies that can support us to do differently and to change as we wish going forwards.

How a ‘to be’ list rather than a ‘to do’ list might serve us better.

If we base our wellbeing on achieving future goals, we might just be disappointed. If we are clear on how we wish to feel, chances are we can meet these needs both in the present as well as set goals that will align, creating a win-win for our present and future selves.

How is your to do list and I don’t mean by that your daily to do list of chores, shopping, cooking, cleaning etc. I mean your life to do list, your goals, your aims, your ideals.

What I found is when I’ve achieved some of my outcomes in life, I haven’t felt any differently.I’ve been hoping for instance when I’ve got qualifications to feel differently, to feel better, or if I’ve moved house, or if I’ve gone away. And I found not much has changed.

So what I’ve started to cultivate is a ‘to be’ list rather than a to do list and this to be list consists of how I’d like to feel. And I found this really helpful in many ways.

How we’d like to feel is far more important in a way than how we’d like to do and what we want to do in our lives.

I have found it’s really given me the opportunity to be more present with myself, be more accountable to myself, because I’m really feeling into how I want to feel in my life. And, if I can achieve that from my existing way of life and whether I can just make simple tweaks, rather than basing my whole life on some future focused outcome, goal, ideal, aim that when I achieve it I don’t feel any different because I’ve not really assessed how I’d like to feel. I create a win-win for myself. Learn more in my video 🙏😊
