These phrases matter more than people realise.

When you have ADHD, your nervous system reacts faster and stronger to stress. That means words said in heated moments can either calm the brain or set it on fire.

The phrases in this image do one important thing.
They slow everything down.

Saying things like
“I need a moment to process this”
“Let’s take a step back”
“I understand how you feel”
“I’m listening”

is not weakness. It is emotional regulation in action.

Many people with ADHD were never taught how to pause before reacting. They learned to mask, people-please, or explode and then feel ashamed afterwards.

These phrases create a pause between feeling and reacting. That pause is where control lives.

If you struggle with emotional overwhelm, conflict, or saying things you regret when you’re stressed, this isn’t a character flaw.

It’s often ADHD.

And skills like this can be learned.

A lot of people think ADHD is just being distracted or fidgety.

But for most people, it looks much more like this.

The “ADHD monsters” in this image are the things that quietly run people’s lives:
• forgetting to eat or drink
• lying awake with a racing mind
• intense emotions that come out of nowhere
• rejection hitting far harder than it should
• feeling paralysed by decisions
• starting things easily but struggling to finish
• feeling overwhelmed by noise, light or touch
• forgetting words mid-sentence
• anxiety that never quite switches off

These are not personality flaws.
They are how an ADHD nervous system processes the world.

Many adults grow up thinking they are lazy, broken, too sensitive or just bad at life, when in reality their brain has been running without the support it needed.

If you look at this image and think “that’s me”…
you’re not alone.

And it might be ADHD.

Early recognition and the right support can change everything.

This is actually a really useful little ADHD trick, and it’s not magic. It’s how our brains already work.

The idea is called bionic reading. You bold or highlight the first part of each word so your eyes and brain get an anchor point. Your brain then fills in the rest automatically instead of having to scan every single letter.

For ADHD brains this helps because:
• it reduces visual overload
• it gives your attention something to lock onto
• it stops your eyes jumping around the page
• it makes it easier to stay with the line you’re on

You’re not reading faster because you’re rushing. You’re reading faster because your brain isn’t fighting the text.

A lot of people with ADHD don’t struggle with understanding. They struggle with keeping their attention glued to the words long enough to understand them. This hack gives your attention something solid to grab.

You can use it by:
• pasting text into a bionic reading converter online
• using browser extensions
• turning on bionic reading in some reading apps
• even manually bolding key letters in important notes

It works especially well for:
• long emails
• articles
• revision notes
• ADHD overwhelm moments where your brain refuses to read

If normal text feels like visual noise, this often turns it into something your brain can finally process.

Not every hack fixes ADHD.
But this one genuinely helps a lot of people.

Simple tasks can take hours with ADHD due to issues with executive function, like poor working memory and time blindness, plus the brain's need for dopamine, leading to task paralysis, overthinking, or getting lost in hyperfocus, making boring activities incredibly difficult to start or finish. Strategies like breaking tasks down, using timers (like Pomodoro), and body doubling can help manage this by creating structure and motivation.
